Overview of the role

Senior Electrical Engineer (HV Cable Design) – Join Our Dynamic Transmission & Distribution Team! Are you passionate about powering the future? Do you thrive on designing, implementing, and maintaining cutting‑edge high‑voltage transmission systems? Our Transmission & Distribution division is expanding and we’re seeking an experienced HV Transmission Cables Engineer to ensure reliable energy delivery for our clients, from underground interconnectors to offshore wind farms.

Key Responsibilities

  • HVAC/HVDC Cable System Design: From conceptualisation to implementation for onshore and offshore projects.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure seamless integration of HV cables into substations, converter stations, and grid networks.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and cost analyses for transmission cable system projects.
  • Front End Engineering Design (FEED): Deliver innovative solutions for cable systems integration into major infrastructural development projects.
  • Consenting stage cable system design: Lead interface with civil and environmental teams to plan delivery in line with consenting requirements.
  • Tender stage design/detail design: Develop concepts through to construction detail level.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve transmission cable‑related issues during installation and operation/maintenance phases.
  • Stay abreast of technological advancements in HV cable materials, insulation, and transmission technologies.

Candidate Specification

Essential:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experienced transmission cable systems engineer.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to solve complex engineering problems related to transmission power cable systems.
  • Willingness to engage with new challenges and work confidently on familiar tasks.
  • Good written communication skills, including report writing.
  • Excellent communication and people skills.

Desirable:

  • Masters in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience in design of both onshore and offshore transmission cable systems.
  • Experience in design of HV cable transmission systems for UK and Ireland utilities.
  • Experience in design of HVAC and HVDC transmission cable systems.
