Due to continued growth, we are looking to recruit an ambitious Lead Process Safety Engineer to provide technical leadership across a diverse programme of global projects. You will undertake a mixture of design and consultancy work across several industry sectors, largely nuclear, with the opportunity to support the wider business in other areas including energy transition projects. The following responsibilities illustrate the key duties of the role:

  • Undertake design and safety design work on projects and proposals.
  • Undertake the Lead Engineer role in projects and proposals.
  • Develop, guide and coach process safety engineers.
  • Lead activities required to ensure that projects can be operated safely and reliably and in accordance with applicable codes and standards, including leadership and participation in HAZOP, HAZID, LOPA, SIL, ATEX, DSEAR, QRA, etc.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) aspects of each project are maintained to the relevant acceptable standards.
  • Ensure that working procedures and engineering execution standards are current and enforced.
  • Perform consequence modelling for loss‑of‑containment scenarios.
  • Conduct hazardous area classification calculations and drawings, including fire hazard assessments.
  • Commissioning and start‑up activities on site. Offers for this role are conditional upon obtaining the appropriate level of Security Clearance.

Qualifications

You will be a degree‑qualified process safety engineer with strong knowledge of design safety from concept through to detailed design. Engineering expertise across a range of industrial applications, ideally including nuclear, chemicals, power generation and allied sectors, is required.

  • Demonstrable experience producing deliverables, meeting project objectives and targets and developing innovative solutions.
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills, including participation in client and other meetings and presentations.
  • Ability to work on your own initiative or as part of a team and to liaise with technical and other disciplines during project execution.
  • Sharp analytical skills and the ability to present quantitative knowledge to non‑experts.
  • Excellent working ability of MS Office and relevant software packages.
  • Relevant system design experience, including the development of PFDs, P&IDs, technical reports and specifications, control philosophies, layout development and safety assessments of plot plans, and associated documentation and system modelling capability.
  • Appreciation of experience in the commercial sphere of project work, including contract terms and project management experience.
