We are seeking a Highways Engineer, working towards professional qualification, to be part of our Transport and Mobility Solutions Division in Southampton and Bristol. You will be accountable for developing design solutions in the transport sector from concepts and feasibility plans to designs for planning application and construction details, using the latest digital design delivery methods. Our focus lies in the development of innovative and safe project solutions to drive efficiency and social values for our clients.
As a Highways Engineer, you will be expected to work in coordination with our sister offices across the UK and overseas. The role will be varied as well as demanding but provides an opportunity to develop your own career within Mott MacDonald.
Key elements of the role- Technical excellence
- You will work on major projects for National Highways and other Government Agencies, Local Authorities or Contractors to comprehend and interpret data, develop innovative solutions, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
- Producing engineering drawings using AutoCAD.
- You will promote the use of Mott MacDonald's internal CAD Standard and ensure that it is used in accordance with our internal management system.
- Undertake 3D modelling using Civil3D or OpenRoads and delivery of models in Navisworks or similar.
- Be familiar with working in Common Data Environments, developing BIM Execution Plans and ensuring compliance of models.
- You may be required to assist in successfully managing projects or project elements in accordance with our quality procedures, and within financial and programme targets.
- Ensuring delivery of assigned project work without the need for re-work.
- Client satisfaction
- Working with a variety of Public and Private clients ranging from Local Authorities to multinational companies.
- Working for a range of internal Clients across the different business units within Mott MacDonald.
- Working on projects of both local and national significance and importance.
- Team working and collaboration
- You will be required to assist the team manager/project manager to maintain a delivery culture.
- You may be expected to manage elements of a project through various phases of a project.
- Proactive approach to project and technical obstacles.
- Proactively contribute to Health & Safety initiatives within the project and business.
- Reporting issues to the Team Manager.
- Delegation of assigned tasks to other members of the team as necessary.
The successful candidate will meet the following criteria:
- Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Working towards Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
- Be technically astute, with some experience of mentoring and developing apprentices and graduates.
- Have demonstrable experience of working across multi-discipline design projects, with a strong understanding of highway design standards (Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) / Specification for Highways Works (SHW) / Manual for Streets) and sound engineering principles.
- Knowledge and experience of using design tools, for example AutoCAD, Civil 3D, OpenRoads and InfoDrainage.
- A confident communicator with good verbal and written skills.
