Locations: Croydon, Sheffield, Manchester, Southampton, Bristol
Airfield Engineers are required to support the growing Aviation Team in the UK and internationally. The role involves designing, planning and managing airfield operations and civil works.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare airfield pavement designs.
- Analyse geotechnical and soil investigation information and request necessary tests.
- Undertake geometric and grading design of runways, taxiways, aprons, service roads and other airfield elements.
- Design stormwater drainage and water‑management systems for airports.
- Oversee the production of Civil 3D designs, civil‑works models and engineering documentation.
- Coordinate design across multiple disciplines, including pavement and structural engineering.
- Prepare specifications for civil works.
- Develop feasible, logical and efficient construction phasing proposals.
- Conduct civil‑works design reviews at all stages.
- Support engagement and management of subconsultants.
- Assist in tender documentation preparation and procurement support for airfield civil works.
- Develop bid methodologies, design proposals and resource estimates for client proposals.
- Travel frequently to the UK and internationally for site visits and to visit Mott MacDonald UK offices (particularly Croydon).
Senior Role Expectations:
- Undertake line‑management duties.
- Lead site visits to airfields in the UK and overseas, monitor construction progress and produce reports.
- Provide leadership and management support to senior and airfield engineers in developing airfield designs for airports worldwide.
Candidate Specification:
- Experience in airfield engineering design or management and strong 2D/3D CAD skills.
- Excellent written and spoken English; additional languages are desirable.
- Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers or a similar recognised professional body and working toward or holding Chartered Engineer status.
- Experience in bid and client account management is advantageous.
Travel: Required travel within the UK and selected international locations (subject to mutual agreement).
