The Water Utilities Division is Mott Mac Donald’s centre of excellence for responding to the UK and Ireland's water and wastewater challenges.
The work we do is at the forefront of ensuring safe water supplies for future generations, preventing urban flooding, and improving the health of our rivers and coastal environments.
Our multidisciplinary teams provide a variety of services throughout the full project life cycle, from advisory services and feasibility studies to outline and detailed design.

Overview of the Role
We work on a wide range of design projects covering
- Water treatment
- Water distribution and storage
- Wastewater drainage and recycling
- Desalination
Clients include most UK water utility companies and many other governmental organisations and private companies in the UK and overseas.
We cover all phases of the project lifecycle from feasibility studies through detailed design, construction support, commissioning to handover.
This offers opportunities to engage in diverse, technically challenging work and support professional development.
Responsibilities
- Work across multiple UK and Ireland water companies
- Participate in multidisciplinary design teams in project delivery
- Deliver excellence everyday
- Prepare design submissions to ensure compliance with contract requirements
- Undertake studies, concept, preliminary and detailed design
- Collaborate with clients and other stakeholders
- Candidate Specification – Essential
- Civil engineering degree
- Water and/or wastewater engineering design experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Understanding of the importance of prioritising health, safety and environmental issues
- Proactive approach, with an ability to adapt to changing scenarios
- Candidate Specification – Desirable
- Working towards Chartered status
- Strong digital capability
- Project management experience or desire to develop these skills
