Overview of the Role

As Assistant Quantity Surveyor you will work as part of a large multi‑disciplinary team providing commercial support. You will work closely with project managers and design managers to ensure successful delivery of projects on time and to budget, supporting the control of both internal and external commercial aspects across a range of contractual arrangements. We operate in Highways, Rail, Aviation and Maritime, delivering major transportation projects for our global client base.

Responsibilities

  • Support and advise the project manager in respect of fulfilment of all contractual obligations
  • Produce detailed cost plans throughout the design phase of projects
  • Actively promote and implement value engineering and value for money
  • Review, appraise and report on main contract / sub‑contract tenders
  • Monitor and process on behalf of the client commercial queries from consultants and contractors
  • Attend progress meetings to respond to commercial matters raised
  • Attend internal management meetings to input to reporting processes
  • Check submitted assessments and applications and process
  • Clarify any queries with consultant or contractor and agree with project managers
  • Carry out periodic commercial checks and due diligence in conjunction with the project manager to ensure information submitted corresponds to records held by the consultant or contractor
  • In conjunction with the project manager provide ongoing assessment of consultant or contractor’s estimate to completion
  • Provide regular detailed financial report forecasting final project costs
  • Receive and check consultant or contractor’s final account, negotiate any amendments and reach a final figure and recommendation for acceptance or rejection
  • Act in accordance with the project leader’s instructions
  • Comply with QES system and group/unit directives
  • Prepare monthly management reports
  • Secure new and repeat business in line with the sub‑divisional budget
  • Prepare estimates and cost plans in line with the brief
  • Prepare standard documentation – reports, valuations, letters, financial statements, etc.
  • Assess applications for payment in line with the contract terms
  • Produce lessons learned report

  • Working towards chartered status (MRICS)
  • Proven skills and experience of delivering within a cost consultancy or main contractor
  • Flexibility in work location and travel
