Mott MacDonald is a global engineering, management, and development consultancy. We are looking to recruit a talented Associate Civil Engineer to join our busy Infrastructure team in London working on a variety of exciting projects for a diverse range of clients and sectors. The role offers autonomy and responsibility, contributing to the team’s profile and portfolio through successful project delivery and business development.
Responsibilities
- Manage projects and multi‑disciplinary design teams, producing and assuring designs.
- Control task budgets and develop staff competencies and career paths.
- Support practices in business development activities; develop commercial and technical responses to new opportunities.
- Lead infrastructure schemes through feasibility, concept, detailed design, construction, commissioning, and operations stages.
- Apply procurement, requirements, technical assurance, and risk management.
Candidate Specification
- The successful candidate must be professionally qualified with an appropriate engineering institution (ICE, CIHT, PW|, etc).
- Experience in early stage optioning.
- Understanding of all design stages (feasibility to detailed design).
- Demonstrated experience in leading infrastructure schemes through all stages.
- Competence in project management, procurement, technical assurance, and risk.
- Full awareness of Health & Safety legislation and CDM regulations.
Practical skills:
- Project management experience across multi‑disciplines, from bidding to delivery against contracted cost and programme.
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills; confidence in client‑facing roles.
- Previous experience on UK public sector infrastructure projects.
- Ability to independently check and approve the work of others (knowledge of key design standards and guidance).
- Experience using digital design tools, including BIM.
Desirable (not essential):
- Technical excellence in coaching, mentoring, and developing people and teams.
- Knowledge of contract preparation, procurement, and risk management.
- Appreciation of operational and maintenance impacts of design solutions.
