The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across several sectors including hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewable generation and transmission & distribution networks. Together we provide integrated engineering and project management services across the project lifecycle – from concept and design to construction and operations, to decommissioning or repowering and life extension. Overview of the role

Mott MacDonald is looking for a Senior Project Controller to join our Energy Unit within the Nuclear, Defence and Civil division. You will play a key role in supporting the successful delivery of complex and high-profile projects within the nuclear sector, working collaboratively with integrated, multi-disciplinary teams. This role offers the opportunity to influence project outcomes, apply best-practice cost control, and contribute to safe, sustainable project delivery, while developing your career within a globally respected consultancy known for technical excellence and a strong people culture.

Key responsibilities and duties include:

  • Lead the development and application of cost control strategies aligned to client requirements and industry best practice
  • Establish, implement and maintain effective cost control systems to manage budgets, commitments, actuals and forecasts
  • Develop and manage robust Performance Measurement Baselines (PMB), supporting integrated change control processes
  • Produce and maintain Cost Breakdown Structures (CBS) aligned with WBS, work packages and control accounts
  • Integrate cost estimates with schedules to support accurate time-phased budgets and earned value performance
  • Prepare and manage accruals to ensure timely and accurate reporting of Actual Cost of Work Performed (ACWP)
  • Maintain credible and well-evidenced project forecasts, including Estimates to Complete (ETC)
  • Manage cost control and reporting in accordance with NEC or FIDIC contract requirements
  • Engage with the supply chain to validate cost data, understand variances and improve forecast accuracy
  • Provide clear, insightful cost performance reporting to project and senior leadership teams

Candidate specification

Essential:

  • Professional experience in Project Controls / Cost Engineering / Cost Control across the full project lifecycle
  • Strong knowledge of Earned Value Management (EVM), cost forecasting and performance analysis
  • Experience working within integrated project teams on complex infrastructure or energy projects
  • Ability to influence and guide cost control processes within complex project or programme environments
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with senior stakeholders
  • Demonstrated leadership behaviours, including coaching and developing others in a collaborative environment
  • Understanding of how cost control interfaces with planning, risk, reporting and change control
  • Membership of, or working towards membership of, a relevant professional body (e.g. APM, PMI)
