As Principal Civil Engineer you will lead civil design, planning and execution on water and wastewater projects from feasibility through to construction, ensuring compliance with legislation, client relationships and interdisciplinary integration.
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee the design, planning and execution of civil engineering on projects.
- Provide design support and guidance for schemes, ensuring designs meet legislation and standards.
- Work closely with commercial, operational and construction teams to develop efficient, safe solutions.
- Engage positively with the client, managing relationships and adopting a one‑team approach.
- Manage interfaces and integration of the civil design with other disciplines and production of documentation.
- Act as technical checker on project documents and undertake technical reviews across teams.
- Identify opportunities to improve delivery processes, including standard designs, sustainable solutions and digital tools.
- Undertake site reviews to ensure buildability and integration within existing systems.
- Support the development of the civil engineering team, coaching and mentoring engineers.
Qualifications
- Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) with a relevant Engineering Institution.
- Minimum of 10 years of civil engineering experience, including hydraulic and concrete structure design.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Experience delivering high‑quality outputs in line with design, quality and safety standards.
- Ability to communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel to sites across the operational region.
- Experience in water/wastewater required.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with sustainable design and green building practices.
- Proficiency in civil engineering software and tools.
- Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and industry standards in the water and wastewater sector.
- Experience of temporary works design.
