About Motorway
Motorway is the UK's fastest-growing used car marketplace – our award winning, online-only platform connects private car sellers with over 7,500 verified dealers nationwide, who compete to offer the best price. Founded in 2017, our technology makes the process refreshingly easy, earning us an 'Excellent' Trustpilot rating with over 70,000 reviews. We're not just building a platform; we're changing how people sell cars. Backed by leading investors like Index Ventures and ICONIQ Growth, and following a successful $190 million funding round, we're on a mission to transform the used car market.
About the role:
We're seeking a dynamic Business Development Sales Manager to lead a high-performing B2B sales team as we scale our dealer partnerships. You will manage a team of 10 B2B Sales Specialists across two critical growth areas: reactivating lapsed dealers and driving growth of existing accounts already active on Motorway. This is a fungible team that is critical to delivering our sales growth targets. You'll be responsible for delivering core goals, but also identifying and executing new sales opportunities, deploying resources appropriately to maximise output, whether that's targeting new segments of Dealers, at-risk accounts, selling new products and features, or optimising for seasonal peaks. Reporting into the Head of Growth & Transformation and working as part of the broader Dealer Services sales organisation, this is a critical role for driving team performance, coaching talent, and implementing processes that support our ambitious growth plans. Your team will be split between our Brighton office and remote colleagues in the Isle of Wight, requiring strong remote management capabilities.
What you'll do
- Lead and motivate a team of 10 B2B Sales Specialists (mix of Brighton-based and IoW remote) to meet and exceed ambitious sales targets
- Use data analysis and forecasting to inform strategy, track performance, and identify growth opportunities
- Drive team performance through regular 1-2-1 coaching, holding the team accountable for success, and supporting each person to reach their full potential
- Drive 100+ dealer launches per month through their team with strong focus on retention and supporting dealers through their ramp up, which includes being willing to personally jump in with the largest accounts
- Coach your team to expand relationships with existing Dealer accounts, ensuring they conduct regular account reviews, provide personalized stock recommendations, and drive adoption of ancillary products
- Implement strategies to reduce cancellation rates across reactivated and mid-tier dealers, bringing them in line with top-performing dealer benchmarks
- Work collaboratively with the IoW on-site manager, maintaining daily/weekly check-ins and hands-on involvement in deals and coaching
- Define and implement new sales processes, leverage our Sales CRM (Hubspot) to track sales team activities, automate sales processes and workflows, and improve the overall go-to-market approach
- Foster a "people-first" culture of support, development, diversity and high performance
Requirements:
- ~5+ years of experience working in sales, with at least 3 years managing a team to deliver targets
- ~ Proven track record of coaching and developing sales talent to exceed goals
- ~ Commercially minded, data-driven with strong analytical skills
- ~ Excellent leadership and communication skills - able to motivate teams and present to senior stakeholders
- ~ Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt quickly in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
- ~ Comfortable with CRM technology to track performance and identify opportunities (Hubspot experience beneficial but not required)
- ~ Automotive industry experience a plus but not essential
Location & Working Pattern:
- ~ Based in Brighton office 4 days per week
- ~ 1 day per week work from home
- ~ Managing mix of Brighton-based and Isle of Wight remote team members
Benefits:
- Competitive salary
- Annual learning budget - you can choose how you like to learn and find the best learning experiences to support your progression
- BUPA health insurance
- Discounted gym membership through BUPA
- On-Hand volunteering membership + 1 volunteering day per year
