Environment Artist (Mid-Level or Senior)

Studio 397 and Motorsport Games are the video game developer and publishers of “Le Mans Ultimate” – the Official Video Game of the FIA World Endurance Championship and 24 Hours of Le Mans available now on Steam.

We also run the popular rFactor 2 simulation title and have created an online matchmaking and player management system for racing games called RaceControl.

This remote role is open only to applicants living, with right to remain and work, in the United Kingdom, Netherlands or Germany.

Role Purpose:

We are looking for an Environment Artist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating high quality motor racing environments focussing on visual output, technical quality and a high level of accuracy to the real life counter part.Your technical and practical abilities will be well developed, and you’ll be able to grasp new concepts and programs quickly, as well as participating in R&D of new techniques to implement into the production pipeline.

As a flexible, highly motivated and detail conscious professional, you’ll use your experience in your field to develop and mentor team members, while retaining hands-on creative responsibilities and keeping up to date with the latest art production techniques.

Our team works remotely, predominantly based in Europe.

Within this role you will:

  • Be responsible for recreating real life motorsport environments as close to reality as possible.
  • Depending on your expertise you could work on either:
    • Various tasks in the scene ranging from Terrain to Barriers to Foliage and more
    • Take on various tasks in the scene ranging from complex architecture down to vehicle props and the most basic of objects too.
  • Be responsible for modelling, uvw and texturing of assets.
  • Work with existing documented methods, but also push the team forward with ways to improve.
  • Work together with other artists to produce art of the highest quality.
  • Work with point clouds and photographic reference to ensure assets are accurate both in dimensions and visuals.
  • Optimise scenes to ensure optimal performance.
  • Mentor other employees and be proactive in helping others improve.

Desired Knowledge/Experience/Skills

  • Have a portfolio demonstrating your skills and experience
  • 5+ years of professional game development experience
  • Experience of recreating real life motorsport environments for real time video games.
  • Excellent Modelling, UVW and Texturing skills.
  • High levels of competence with 3ds Max or Blender, Photoshop and Substance packages.
  • Experience creating photo realistic materials (not stylised).
  • Ability to work well self-directed
  • A high level of attention to aesthetic detail.
  • A passion for motorsport

  • Communicates clearly and professionally across disciplines within the team.
  • Clearly explains and summarises key elements of assigned work.
  • Can effectively provide a line manager with verbal and written updates.

  • Proven ability to clearly define requirements and work with all of our teams to make it happen.
  • Confidently able to plan and estimate time against their work and reflect industry standard estimations for asset creation.
  • Requires light supervision on familiar tasks but will seek guidance on more complex or new/unfamiliar tasks.
