Purpose of the Role: Responsible for the maintenance, assembly and deployment of static showcars and Heritage Formula 1 cars, collaborating across multiple Car Build functions and Commercial departments at the McLaren Technology Centre.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Work closely with the McLaren Racing Display Asset team, providing technical support to the Showcar & Event Asset team.
- The build and preparation of showcars and Heritage Formula 1 car assets, sub‑assemblies and support equipment.
- Supporting the supply, servicing and extremely high presentation standards of static showcar assets and Heritage Formula 1 cars to partner events.
- Oversee checking in and out of all showcar assets into McLaren Technology Centre.
- Carrying out and recording all static showcar maintenance work.
- Compiling fault and damage reports and actioning corrective works.
- Application of minor branding updates (i.e. logo changes) and ensuring branding sign off is completed as per process and requirement.
- Support with livery applications often involving full dismantle and rebuild of cars.
- Ownership and point of contact for Pit Stop Challenge chassis, equipment, maintenance and service recording.
- Occasionally required to travel to oversee complex installs requiring dismantle and reassembly of cars on site at partner events.
- Liaison with Commercial team, Partners and logistics teams to input into planning, presentation and deployment of fleet.
- Building to extremely high McLaren presentation and quality standards.
- Liaison with on‑site support functions for movement and storage of assets.
- Always ensuring tasks are completed right first time and often to tight deadlines and in a pressurised environment both at and away from the McLaren Technology Centre.
- Management and stock control of showcar spare parts and assemblies.
- Liaising with Internal & External stakeholders in regards to service & maintenance of the cars.
Job requirements Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- Previous “hands‑on” showcar build experience within a marketing function advantageous.
- Experience of working in a technical engineering motorsport function.
- Ability to interpret engineering specifications and drawings.
- High car “detailing” and exceptional presentation standards.
- Previous experience of working in a motorsport team environment and evidence understanding of current Formula One terminology.
- Experience in vinyl application and technologies a distinct advantage.
- Previous experience of working with composite materials.
- Previous experience of race car build process.
- Process mapping and process improvement experience.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and digital systems to drive process improvements, regards digital build and fleet management.
