Purpose of the Role
You will be key in developing software solutions that support the planning, analysis, and visualization of experimental data from CFD, wind tunnel, and track tests. Your tools will empower engineers to generate insights and accelerate the development of car performance. You’ll play an active role in continuous improvement and major upgrade projects, helping us maintain technical leadership in data-driven motorsport engineering.
Principal Accountabilities
- Design and build software tools to streamline the planning and execution of experiments.
- Contribute to the development of new experimental methodologies through robust tooling.
- Maintain and advance technologies for experimental data analysis and visualisation.
- Engage directly with engineers to understand their requirements, improving workflows and delivering practical solutions.
Job requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Essential
- Strong academic background ideally at postgraduate level, or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or a related field.
- Proactive and self-motivated, able to work both autonomously and in a collaborative team setting.
- Proven track record of managing multiple projects and meeting challenging deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills for translating technical information to diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in Python and/or C#.
Desirable
- Experience with Wind Tunnel and/or CFD experimental environments.
- Background in aerodynamic analysis, academically or in industry.
- Experience with databases such as SQL or MongoDB.
- Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and other DevOps tools.

McLaren Racing is based at the iconic McLaren Technology Centre (MTC) near Woking. Here at McLaren, we offer hybrid working with 3 days a week based in the MTC. Our state of the art, sustainable campus offers many facilities including a gym, restaurant and indoor and outdoor break-out areas, as well as direct access to park and common land. The MTC is connected to Woking mainline station via regular shuttle buses, from which London Waterloo is a 30 minute train ride.
