Our Vehicle Engineering department is the driving force behind performance and innovation at Williams Racing. From electronics and control systems to mechanical design, data processing, and structural integrity, our experts work as one to deliver race-winning performance. Every component from chassis to bodywork is crafted with precision, powered by collaboration, and guided by a shared passion for excellence.

Within Vehicle Engineering, our teams focus on:

Chassis, Bodywork & Wings (CBW) – The Chassis, Bodywork and Wings Department develops innovative solutions that deliver performance to our Formula 1 cars. Our team of skilled Design Engineers works to deliver right first time, structurally optimal car parts, directly influencing performance on the track.

Design Quality – The Design Quality team organises data, documentation and owns processes key to supporting engineers within Vehicle Design. We check and approve design releases, refine processes and collaborate with Production Operations to improve processes.

Materials – The Materials Engineering department delivers crucial data to enable efficient design, manufacturing and racing of car components. This includes new material characterisation, design & manufacturing process support and fault analysis across a broad range of materials and processes.

Powertrain – The Powertrain Design team develops high-performance systems delivering power, reliability and efficiency. Working with Aerodynamics, Vehicle Dynamics, Manufacturing and Simulation, Powertrain engineers design components from concept to prototype, producing detailed drawings and assemblies for manufacturing, contributing to on-track performance.

Suspension, Steering & Brakes (SSB) – The SSB team designs and engineers components such as wishbones, uprights, steering systems and brake assemblies, contributing to handling, performance and safety from concept to prototype and testing.

Structures – The Structures department drives car design forward, ensuring safety while extracting maximum performance and verifying designs meet FIA and internal criteria across departments.

Electronics, Software and Controls – This team supports the development and integration of race car systems, including bespoke software tools for real-time telemetry data analysis and mechanical design of electrical enclosures and harnesses that run throughout the car. The role ensures reliability and competitiveness on track.

We are hiring for the following roles:

  • Vehicle Engineering Graduate – Rotational

Join the Vehicle Design team on a rotational programme at Williams Racing and gain immersive, hands-on experience across core vehicle engineering disciplines. You’ll contribute to performance-enhancing projects across areas such as Chassis, Bodywork & Wings, Design Quality, Materials, Powertrain, Structures, and Systems Engineering.

Shape the Future

  • Collaborate across Aerodynamics, Vehicle Dynamics, Manufacturing, Simulation, and other departments to deliver innovative car designs.
  • Contribute to the development of high-performance components and assemblies using cutting-edge materials and manufacturing techniques.
  • Support research and development initiatives that push the boundaries of engineering excellence in Formula 1.

Make Real Impact

  • Develop and deliver engineering designs and drawings for vehicle components and assemblies.
  • Perform calculations and liaise with simulation and structures teams for specialist analysis.
  • Produce test specifications and reports for both factory and trackside use.
  • Investigate and resolve design faults and manufacturing queries to ensure quality and reliability.

Find Your Place

  • Studying or recently graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals including mechanics, thermodynamics, materials, fluid dynamics, and mathematics.
  • Experience with CAD software (e.g., NX) and simulation tools.
  • Knowledge of composite and metallic materials and their applications.

  • Materials Engineer Graduate

As a Materials Engineer, you’ll play a key role in supporting the development and application of advanced materials technologies that enhance vehicle performance. You’ll be involved in material testing, fault analysis, and process documentation to contribute to efficient design, manufacturing and racing of high-performance car components.

Your work will directly impact reliability and innovation of our engineering processes, helping the team stay at the cutting edge of motorsport technology. By delivering materials projects and supporting cross-functional teams, you’ll ensure cars are built with precision, durability and speed.
