The Opportunity:

A fabulous opportunity for an experienced, Tyre Modelling Engineer to join the small yet growing, dedicated and talented team at Lola as we embark on the next phase of the adventure. The role of the Tyre Modelling Engineer will primarily leading tyre modelling across all racing projects undertaken by the Lola Technical Team.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain in-house tyre models for use in vehicle simulations / simulator.
  • Assess tyre model correlation, identify areas of performance improvement, and contribute to implementation.
  • Propose new development items and methodologies for improving tyre modelling and tyre performance more widely.
  • Support simulator testing (primarily remote) as required to further tyre model development.
  • Support rig testing as appropriate, and post-process results to further tyre understanding.
  • Support trackside engineers with pre and post event analysis, as required.
  • Influence car performance as a whole by contributing to cross-department understanding of the influence of tyres on performance, e.g. with Design, Race Engineering, Simulator teams.
  • Technical Skills required:
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar role within top-tier motorsport such as F1, FE, or WEC, showcasing a proven track record in tyre engineering.
  • Strong theoretical understanding of tyre and vehicle dynamics.
  • Experience developing and maintaining tyre models, preferably thermo-mechanical models.
  • Good knowledge of at least one high-level programming language, eg. MATLAB, Python, etc.
  • Knowledge of rig testing relating to tyres is preferred, but not essential.
  • Experience with laptime simulation software (i.e. Canopy) is preferred, but not essential.

Qualifications & Experience required:

  • Degree Level or commensurate work experience
  • Mechanical, Automotive, or Aeronautical engineering degree desirable but not essential
  • Physics and Maths qualifications are desirable.
  • Project Management experience desirable but not essential
  • An interest in and understanding of engineering/motorsport.

The Successful Candidate might be:

  • An existing Tyre or Tyre Simulation Engineer in a motorsport/ automotive company
  • A Tyre or Tyre Simulation Engineer who has acquired the appropriate experience, skills & knowledge.
  • An experienced engineer with the relevant skills and knowledge

Role Location & Hours:

The role will be based at the Silverstone, Lola Facility with the potential for some flexibility for remote working. 40 hrs a week, normal working days Monday to Friday, 8 hours a day.
