Purpose of the Role: Operating in a cost cap environment, the role will support the tax compliance and processes in the business.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • As part of the finance team, be the lead in the preparation of the R&D tax claim, from understanding the technical rules through to being a business partner with the individual stakeholders across the business to build a robust claim.
  • Quickly pick up the R&D tax rules, and be able to apply those rules to the calculation of the R&D tax claim.
  • Be able to critically analyse, document & suggest improvements to current processes, to drive efficiencies and savings.
  • Be able to scenario plan the impact to the R&D claim from changes in forecasts/budgets.
  • Be able to quickly understand the business complexity & challenge business assumptions to optimise the claim.
  • Supporting the finance team to extract & analyse/perform checks on the financial data weekly to review for tax robustness.
  • Feeding back to the business units on improvements on processes & systems to enhance the quality of the data.
  • Take a broad view of business operations and critically analyse risks and related controls from a tax perspective.
  • Support for ad hoc queries, as required.

Job Requirements:

  • Past experience documenting and designing processes & controls.
  • An appreciation of the complexity of the business.
  • A desire to work with complex data and make it usable.
  • Able to use Microsoft programs.
  • Able to work with large datasets and has excellent data analysis skills, in particular the ability to spot trends and anomalies, using knowledge of business patterns etc.
  • Shows a willingness to ask questions and an eagerness to learn and to seek a better understanding to deliver a better service and solutions.
  • Experience in using ERP systems for tax codes and rules.
  • Communicates clearly verbally and in writing.
  • Reliable and presents information in an organised, self-reviewed, and free from obvious error, and delivered on time.
  • Use of initiative – driven by a desire to find solutions.
  • Knowledge of basic double-entry bookkeeping.
