High Voltage (HV) Engineer for United Autosports – McLaren Hypercar Programme. Full-time | Global travel | Safety-critical hybrid systems role.
If you're an experienced, highly disciplined engineer with a deep understanding of high-voltage systems — and you want to operate at the sharpest, most technically advanced end of endurance racing — this is your role.
About the Role
As our High Voltage (HV) Engineer, you will take full responsibility for the safe operation, reliability and performance of all hybrid systems on the McLaren Hypercar. This is one of the most safety-critical, technically demanding positions in the entire programme. You will manage activation, isolation, system checks, diagnostics, fault resolution, performance monitoring and compliance — ensuring the hybrid system is stable, safe and delivering at its best, every session.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Managing HV activation, deactivation, safety protocols and compliance.
- Running pre- and post-session HV checks, insulation monitoring and system validation.
- Monitoring hybrid deployment, SOC behaviour, recovery patterns and system performance.
- Diagnosing HV faults under extreme time pressure and resolving issues quickly.
- Working closely with the manufacturer on updates, calibration and software releases.
- Keeping the garage team safe through correct communication, signage and controlled access.
- Supporting reliability engineering through structured analysis and reporting.
- Maintaining all HV tooling, PPE, documentation and event-readiness.
What You’ll Bring
- Formal HV certification and proven experience working with hybrid race systems.
- Trackside experience in elite motorsport (Hypercar, LMDh, FE, F1, WRC Hybrid or similar).
- Deep understanding of electrical systems, battery safety, interlocks and power electronics.
- Calmness, discipline and absolute respect for safety procedures.
- Strong diagnostic skills and the ability to work under pressure.
- Excellent communication across engineering and garage teams.
- Flexibility to travel globally and work long hours at events.
Why This Role Matters
Because hybrid systems can win — or end — a race. Because safety is non-negotiable. Because reliability under pressure defines a championship. You will be the authority, the expert and the guardian of the most advanced system on the car. If you’re precise, composed and technically exceptional — we want to speak to you.
