For many fans of Formula One, the sport exists between lights and chequered flag on a Sunday afternoon. It begins and ends with the exploits of the drivers on the track. But this is merely the tip of the spear. The reality of modern F1 is that of a complex and intertwined operation, every part of which needs to perform near its limit if success is to be achieved. From the pit crew searching for the ultimate repeatable pit stop, to the inspiration of the designers, the application of engineers and the herculean efforts of an army of fabricators and machinists. Much of our success is thanks to the diversity of thought and spectrum of skill sets held within the team, our ability to recognise unique contributions from individual team members is just a part of why we love what we do.

Red Bull Powertrains is the newest and most exciting addition to the Red Bull Technology Campus in Milton Keynes. As we continue our journey to develop championship-winning Formula 1 power units, we are looking for Simulation Engineers to join Red Bull Powertrains. This is a unique opportunity to work at the cutting edge of Powertrain development, using world-class facilities and technology to validate everything from individual components to full electrified powertrains. With the software encompassing all aspects of the PU system modelling, numerical optimization, and optimal control. You as the engineer will use the software to support the business with all data required to engineer, calibrate, test, and run the PU on dynos throughout the 2026 season.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Develop and maintain simulation tools that model the complete PU system and support performance analysis
  • Implement and refine numerical optimization and optimal control algorithms within the simulation environment
  • Utilize the simulation software to generate data, critical for engineering, calibration, testing, and operation of the PU on dynos
  • Support on-car PU performance analysis, optimization, and offline calibration generation as the team supports on track running for the 2026 and future seasons
  • Support customer team Driver In the Loop and track testing either in person or remotely
  • Support works and customer teams with information required for car engineering, such as fuel cell sizing, brake sizing and cooling system specification
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure simulation outputs align with real-world testing and operational requirements

What we’re looking for:

  • A degree with a 2:1 minimum in an engineering subject or related field
  • Experience working with MATLAB/Simulink
  • Exposure to embedded software development
  • Previous lap simulation experience in F1 or other racing series is desirable
  • Knowledge and experience of numerical optimization theory and application
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced racing environment
  • Passion for motorsports

Benefits:

  • Bonuses
  • Private healthcare
  • A pension scheme
  • On-site gym
  • Free daily food allowance
  • And many more!
