We are looking for an AI Research Engineer to join the Alpine F1 Team’s Software and Data group. This role is focused on developing and deploying advanced AI and machine learning solutions that directly impact our on-track and off-track performance. You will work across departments to identify high-value opportunities, prototype novel models, and deliver production-ready systems that enhance our competitive edge. This position is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of research and engineering, with a strong foundation in AI/ML and a passion for motorsport innovation. You will play a crucial role in developing cutting‑edge solutions to help the team achieve our goals in the Formula One World Championship.

This is a unique opportunity to be part of Alpine F1, working alongside engineers who work tirelessly to improve all areas of the team, from the design and manufacture of the car to the performance analysis at track. The role covers both scientific and engineering aspects. The ideal candidate will have passion for data, knowledge sharing and collaboration.

The Role

In this role, you will research, design, and implement AI/ML models to tackle complex engineering and performance challenges in Formula 1, translating cutting‑edge research into robust, scalable solutions using modern software engineering practices. You will build and maintain scalable training pipelines, deploy models with Python and MLOps tools, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams—including Simulation, Vehicle Performance, and Software Engineering—to deliver impactful solutions. Your work will involve data exploration, feature engineering, and model evaluation following best practices, while staying up to date with emerging AI/ML technologies and assessing their relevance to our domain. Additionally, you will contribute to internal tooling, documentation, and knowledge sharing, and foster a culture of experimentation, learning, and innovation within the team.

The Person

If you have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence or a related field, more than 2 years of experience in applied AI/ML research or development, and strong Python programming skills, we’d love to hear from you! We’re looking for individuals who are proficient in AI/ML frameworks, experienced in model development and deployment and MLOps tools, and have excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.

In more detail, here are the technologies and expertise we value:

  • AI/ML frameworks e.g. PyTorch, TensorFlow.
  • Python data science libraries e.g. NumPy, Pandas.
  • Pipelines and deployment tools e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions.
  • Understanding of the full ML lifecycle: data preparation, training, evaluation, deployment and maintenance.

Additional skills that are a plus

  • Knowledge of LLMs, LangChain/LangGraph, or AI agents.
  • A track record of research publications (e.g., a PhD).

We’re looking for team players with a positive, “can-do” attitude, strong troubleshooting skills, and a passion for innovation and knowledge sharing. Not only is this a fantastic role, but it is also a fantastic team to work with here in Enstone at a very interesting point in our journey. There are many other benefits too such as our bonus scheme, private health care cover, company contributed pension scheme, on site gym, subsidised canteen, and a car scheme.
