We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and hands‑on Apprentice Shell Fabricator to join our Shell Shop Department. This apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to learn specialist motorsport fabrication skills while working on high‑performance competition cars in a professional, fast‑paced environment.
You’ll be trained by experienced fabricators and gain practical experience in producing, modifying, and repairing bodyshells and fabricated components to exacting high motorsport standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Assist in the fabrication, assembly, and preparation of competition car bodyshells.
- Learn techniques such as cutting, forming, drilling, and fitting metal components.
- Support the installation of roll cages, brackets, panels, and reinforcement parts.
- Use hand tools, jigs, and workshop equipment safely and accurately.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and build instructions.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment.
- Work closely with designers, senior fabricators, and technicians to meet build schedules and standards.
We’re looking for a self‑motivated team player with a positive and enthusiastic attitude. The ideal candidate will be:
- Good knowledge and understanding of engineering principles.
- Strong interest in fabrication, welding, engineering and motorsport.
- Excellent welding skills (MIG and TIG) with excellent attention to detail and highly organised.
- Basic practical skills and willingness to learn hands‑on workshop techniques.
- Ability to follow instructions, and work both independently and collaboratively as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.
- Good communication skills, and a keen eye for problem solving.
GCSEs (or equivalent) grades 9 – 4 (or A* – C) in Maths, English, and a Science subject. A Level 2 qualification in Fabrication and Welding is desirable, but not essential.
WHAT DO I NEED TO CONSIDERThis is a 42‑month (plus End Point Assessment) Level 3 apprenticeship, where you will spend time with our local training provider Gen2, in addition to working on‑site at our Dovenby Hall Headquarters. At Gen2, you will learn a range of hands‑on and theoretical engineering skills. Training will be delivered on a one day per week basis at their training centre.
