We are looking for an experienced
Senior NDT Technician to provide technical leadership across all aspects of Non-Destructive Testing within our Formula One operation.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a critical role in ensuring the structural integrity, safety and performance of race-winning components throughout their lifecycle.
Working closely with Engineering, Production, Quality and the Race Team, you will lead inspection activities, mentor technicians, develop new inspection methods and provide expert technical guidance both at our Silverstone facility and trackside when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Take a lead role in the delivery of NDT inspections across the manufacture, preparation, development and service life of Formula One components.
- Provide technical leadership in Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Eddy Current Testing (ET), Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI), Dye Penetrant Inspection (DPI) and Visual Inspection (VT).
- Act as the senior technical authority for inspection methods, defect interpretation, acceptance criteria and component disposition.
- Develop, validate and implement new inspection techniques and technologies to improve capability and efficiency where required.
- Mentor and support NDT Technicians, promoting best practice and maintaining consistently high inspection standards.
- Review and approve technical inspection reports, ensuring compliance, traceability and accuracy.
- Work collaboratively with Design, Stress, Manufacturing, Production and Quality teams to support engineering decisions.
- Support failure investigations and structural integrity assessments through detailed NDT analysis.
- Maintain inspection equipment, calibration records and departmental documentation.
- Travel nationally and internationally to support race, test and development events where required.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, helping advance the team's NDT capability and inspection processes.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Minimum Level 2 EN4179/PCN certification in Ultrasonic Testing and Eddy Current Testing, MPI, DPI and Visual Inspection (Level 3 certification or equivalent responsibility would be advantageous).
- Extensive experience in conventional A-Scan and Phased Array Ultrasonic Inspection, including handheld and immersion systems.
- Strong understanding of composite and metallic materials, manufacturing processes and defect mechanisms in a motorsport and aerospace environment or equivalent.
- Experience developing or improving NDT procedures and inspection techniques.
- Knowledge of Digital Radiography, X-ray or CT scanning (desirable).
- Excellent technical reporting and analytical skills.
- Experience mentoring and developing technicians.
- The ability to make sound technical decisions within a fast-paced, high-performance environment.
- Excellent communication skills and the confidence to work with engineering stakeholders across the business.
