We're hiring a Senior Model Design Engineer to provide technical leadership across wind tunnel model development, taking aerodynamic surfaces from concept through to a build ready for testing.

In this technical leadership role, you will take ownership of complex, high risk and cross functional projects, define the technical approach, identify risks early and coordinate the engineers needed to solve them. You'll sign off your own work within your area of competence and know when to escape.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership for complex, high risk or cross functional wind tunnel model projects from aerodynamic surface through to test ready delivery
  • Develop and review complex 3D CAD models and assemblies, covering loads, interfaces, mechanisms, materials and tolerances
  • Own manufacturability and non conformance issues, and use the findings to improve designs, methods and standards
  • Own multiple Model Part Generators, directing their development and improving consistency across the Model Design group
  • Interpret FIA Restricted Wind Tunnel Testing requirements, resolve complex configuration and compliance questions, and sign off work within your competence
  • Drive improvements to model accuracy, resilience, repeatability and test readiness
  • Lead investigations into technical, structural or delivery issues through to closure
  • Mentor colleagues, contribute to resourcing decisions and represent the technical view in cross functional discussions

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Engineering degree or equivalent experience, with independent delivery of complex technical work in F1 wind tunnel model development or a comparable fast paced environment
  • Advanced 3D CAD and mechanical design skills, ideally in CATIA
  • Established expertise in design for manufacture and assembly, materials and manufacturing processes
  • Capability in structural, tolerance and verification assessment
  • Experience directing parametric or generative design systems, including ownership of Model Part Generators
  • Working knowledge of FIA Restricted Wind Tunnel Testing requirements
  • Strong problem solving and communication skills, balancing safety, quality, delivery, cost and risk

BenefitsInvesting in your career is paramount. We promote professional and personal development through a provision of learning opportunities and work with you to shape your career and realise your full potential.

As part of our high-performing, collaborative team, you'll enjoy a competitive package, including a discretionary bonus scheme, private healthcare, pension plan, life assurance, TEDSgroup childcare benefits, a cycle-to-work scheme, tech scheme, and car scheme.
