Department Overview
Command Central Responder is a product aimed at US emergency service customers supporting a range of features around CAD, records management, search and evidence capture. Responder includes mobile applications and a set of cloud services running in Azure that support them.
Job Description
This role is primarily hybrid working (home worker with some office meetings in Glasgow).
This Product Owner will work with engineering teams on feature definition and release planning for the Command Central Responder product. The Product Owner will:
- Manage the backlog for the Responder Cloud Services team
- Work with other Motorola teams that provide services that Responder depends on to define dependency requirements, ensure they are delivered and ensure their APIs meet Responder needs.
- Work with the Product Owner and Engineering leads for the Responder mobile applications to ensure the Responder Cloud Service APIs meet the needs of the mobile applications, and define technical mobile app backlog items for the Responder mobile application teams to use these APIs.
The Product Owner uses their technical knowledge and background to support the product manager in laying out a product roadmap that is differentiated and delivers unique value based on customer demands.
The role of the product owner spans many activities from strategic to tactical and provides cross-functional leadership—bridging gaps within the company between different functions, especially between development, sales and marketing, and support.
The ability to deeply understand and define the technical architecture and engineering features and to translate high level customer functional requirements into technical requirements for development is a crucial skill. In addition, the ability to describe the impact of technical requirements to customers and non-technical sales and support resources is a must.
Key responsibilities:
- Feature Definition – define user stories, scenarios and feature definitions.
- Manage backlog for one or more sprint teams, attending all relevant sprint meetings.
- Define acceptance criteria, KPIs and SLAs
- Support the product management team in establishing vision and goals for sprints and releases
- Define and support implementation of training, support and deployment requirements
- Manage risks and resolves issues that affect release scope, schedule and quality
- Coordinate overall release project and schedule
- Support product management team in evaluating competitive intelligence
- Consult with product management team in creating business plans and proposals for new initiatives
- Strategic partner and third party supplier management
Basic Requirements
Key qualifications of the Product Owner:
- Bachelors Degree, MBA or other graduate degree
- Progressive experience in engineering – a strong technical background is required for this role.
- Understanding of REST APIs, swagger definitions and JSON. Able to test and use REST APIs using tools such as Postman.
- Must be able to obtain background clearance as required by government customer
- Communication skills – ability to communicate well with teams and build strong relationships with Responder and other MSI teams.
- Specialized Knowledge and Skills
- Experience in the use of Agile software development methodologies
- Understanding of software design, user interaction, and user interface design
- Polished presentation skills for internal and external audiences
- High degree of competency with project management, including issues and risk identification and management
- Ability to understand market trends, financial data, and customer needs and assess competitive intelligence data.
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a diverse team spread across multiple continents in a fast-moving environment
- Experience with Law Enforcement / Public Safety industry would be beneficial
