Motorola Solutions is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Silent Sentinel team, to facilitate development of ongoing projects. The successful candidate will be self‑motivated, able to work autonomously, and confident in reaching out for support when needed. They will collaborate with stakeholders within and outside the engineering department to produce reliable products and production methods.
The role primarily involves designing enclosures and mechanisms suitable for harsh environments such as -40°C, marine conditions, and MIL‑STD. Designs will be created in CAD (SolidWorks) and translated into technical drawings and build guides that are readable by production, quality, and manufacturing teams. Attention to detail is critical for inspecting drawings before release for manufacturing, testing prototypes, and troubleshooting production issues. Anyone successful enough for an interview must demonstrate a basic portfolio with relevant work.
Basic Requirements- Fluency in English (spoken and written)
- CAD experience in SolidWorks (3D modelling, 2D technical drawings, BoM production)
- Knowledge of material properties, manufacturing techniques, plating methods, coatings, and fasteners
- Ability to travel between Ware (main office) and Sandy (machine shop) on short notice
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to produce clear, concise documentation
- Self‑motivated with the ability to learn quickly and work independently while also collaborating within a team
- A demonstrated pragmatic approach to problem solving
- Ability to design for manufacture and assembly
- Ability to implement designs that are ergonomic and aesthetically pleasing (asset)
- Familiarity with IP ratings and methods of achieving IP67
- Ability to design and conduct relevant tests to achieve high product quality
- Ability to justify design decisions with calculations, analysis, and written documentation
- Experience in FEA and thermal simulation is advantageous
