Motor Desk is a fast-growing Saa S platform designed for the automotive retail industry.

We provide dealerships with everything they need to manage and grow their business, from stock management and websites to invoicing, accounting, customer communications and AI-powered tools.

We’re looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to join our growing team.

This is a role for someone who can see the bigger picture; who will not only manage our existing infrastructure but also help define where it should be in the future, making strategic recommendations that improve scalability, security, resilience and the overall engineering capability of the business.

As a growing Saa S business, our priorities change, new opportunities emerge and no two days are ever the same.

We value people who are adaptable, proactive and excited by the opportunity to learn new skills and contribute to the business as a whole.

Why Join Motor Desk?

At Motor Desk, we don't believe in rigid job descriptions or putting people in boxes.

We're a growing Saa S business, and as we grow, our people grow with us.

We're looking for individuals who enjoy variety, are naturally curious and are happy to get involved wherever they can make the biggest impact.

This role is designed to evolve. As the business scales, you'll have the opportunity to develop new skills and take on greater responsibility.

We believe the best roles are shaped by talented people, not limited by a job description.

If you show initiative, bring ideas and enjoy learning, we'll give you the flexibility and support to help create a role that plays to your strengths while helping the business succeed.

We recognise that great people bring different levels of experience and expertise, and our salary offer will reflect your individual skills and background to ensure it is both fair and competitive.

What You’ll Do

·Own AWS infrastructure, security, observability, resilience and platform performance, ensuring Motor Desk remains secure, scalable and reliable as we grow.

·Maintain and implement secure coding standards, code reviews, technical governance and cloud best practices across the platform.

·Manage disaster recovery, backups and business continuity processes.

·Plan and deliver internal engineering initiatives, coordinating projects across infrastructure, security, architecture and platform improvements while keeping stakeholders informed of progress.

·Carry out PHP code reviews, provide technical mentoring, and support developers with architecture decisions to ensure high standards of code quality, security and maintainability.

  • Understand software architecture principles and can contribute to system design and technical decision-making.
  • Communicate clearly, collaborate effectively, and are comfortable mentoring junior developers.
  • Take ownership of your work, thrive in solving complex problems, and balance speed with code quality.

·Are detail-oriented, highly organised, and self-motivated – with the ability to lead projects from concept to completion.

·Strong AWS and cloud infrastructure experience.

Bonus Skills & Experience

·Knowledge of the motor trade or car sales industry.

We're interested in people, not just CVs.

If you think you'd thrive at Motor Desk but your experience doesn't perfectly match this advert, we would still love to hear from you.

You are welcome to send a short message along with your CV telling us why you're interested and why you believe you would be a great fit.

We know that skills can be learned, and we're always looking for people with high ambition and the right attitude.

The workplace is located on the first & second floor with stair access only.

We welcome applications from all candidates and will explore reasonable adjustments to support accessibility.

If you require adjustments during the interview process and the workplace, please let us know in order for us to accommodate you suitably.

How to prepare for a job interview at MotorDesk

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If MotorDesk uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
