Overview

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Tax Assistant to support our Group Tax Manager in the preparation and organisation of financial and tax-related data. This role offers an excellent development opportunity for someone looking to start a career in tax, with hands-on experience across multiple tax areas and the potential to undertake a professional apprenticeship as a Taxation Technician.

Key Responsibilities

Corporate Tax

  • Manage and collate capital allowances data
  • Build relationships with quantity surveyors and suppliers
  • Use systems such as NetSuite (accounting) and Verisae (capital maintenance)
  • Assist with data analysis for quarterly tax-sensitive accounts
  • Prepare Structural Building Allowances statements for Corporate Tax returns
  • Gather data and assist in preparation of Corporation Tax rollover relief elections
  • Liaise with HR for company-leased car data for tax returns

Employment Taxes

  • Work with the wider business to prepare the annual PAYE Settlement Agreement

VAT (Support Role)

  • Produce monthly VAT reconciliations
  • Assist with corrections in conjunction with the wider finance team
  • Prepare quarterly VAT group returns and post VAT journals
  • Support ad-hoc VAT-related projects

Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT)

  • Review and log relevant correspondence
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders and external advisors

Person Specification

Upon successful completion of the six-month probation, you will have the opportunity to undertake an apprenticeship to become a Professional Taxation Technician, providing a structured route to qualification while gaining valuable experience on the job.
