For those in their penultimate year of study undertaking a degree including placement experience. Start Date: August 2026

Main Accountabilities:

  • To support the Control team with month-end reporting and balance sheet reconciliation preparation.
  • Posting month-end journals and providing commentary on P&L lines variances month on month and to budget.
  • Support with ad hoc projects.
  • To improve understanding around the P&L and balance sheet.
  • Support with statutory accounts preparation.
  • Support with tax capital allowances calculations.
  • Work with other business stakeholders to support their needs.
  • Work in finance operations to develop understanding of core business finance processes.
  • Suggest improvements to processes to improve efficiencies.
  • Opportunity to also work in other finance departments to gain experience and support them, e.g. FP&A.
  • Follow business specific guidelines and health & safety procedures.

Dimensions:

No set responsibilities to start with, these are designed around your learning style and eagerness towards different aspects. Main responsibility is to support the Control team members with their tasks to gain experience with the aim through the year of taking extra responsibility as experience and confidence grows. Probationary period of 3 months to judge strengths and weaknesses whilst gaining understanding of financial processes then progressing on to self-accountabilities.

Work Context:

Working in a modern and professional office environment, 09:00-17:00 Monday to Friday, based in St Albans. Granted home working one day per week.

Complexity:

MFG is constantly undergoing change and improvement, and the candidate is expected to take on new tasks and processes, keeping up with the fast-paced environment. There are no expectations for the candidate to work extra hours, and learning is structured at the candidate’s own pace. Support and resources are available to self-review, with regular 1 to 1s to discuss progress.

Knowledge & Skills Required:

  • Studying a degree relating to accounting or finance with any additional elements such as business, management, economics etc.
  • Minimum of 120 UCAS points (BBB).
  • Right To Work in the UK required.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to remain motivated under pressure.
  • Good communication and team-working skills.
  • Some/basic knowledge of Microsoft 365 (specifically Excel).
  • Strong organizational skills and self-management.
  • Desire to expand skillset and knowledge.
  • Ability to analyse large datasets and draw conclusions.
  • Confidence to share opinions and challenge processes.
