As a Motive Automotive Service Technician, you will be a vital part of the Connected Devices/Hardware team. You should possess a deep understanding of Motive Hardware, automotive networking protocols, and installation practices. You will serve as a role model for hardware knowledge and quality standards.
The ideal candidate is a Computer Electronics expert with a passion for hardware and automotive technology, comfortable owning challenges and engaging directly with customers during hardware deployment.
Motive seeks a skilled Vehicle Protocol Technician responsible for installing, connecting, and ensuring the quality of telematics devices in customer vehicles. The role involves creating and delivering technical training, inspecting vehicles for missing data, and collaborating with the telematics team. This position combines hands-on technical work, customer interaction, and project management. Automotive or logistics experience is a plus. The role requires 30-40% travel.
What You\’ll Do:
- Become a Subject Matter Expert on Motive Hardware, Software, and debugging tools.
- Become a Subject Matter Expert on telematics solutions, deployment, and analysis practices.
- Provide onsite support for installations, troubleshooting, QA, and support.
- Increase telematics coverage through relationship management and outreach.
- Develop and deliver training and certification content for installation partners and internal teams.
- Maintain an online help center with guides and resources.
- Ensure safety and efficiency on-site.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to improve products and processes.
- Handle escalated technical issues to ensure positive outcomes.
What We\’re Looking For:
- Minimum 5 years relevant experience
- Bachelor\’s Degree or equivalent experience/certification
- Strong proficiency in Computer Electronics and Hardware
- Expertise in vehicle architecture, embedded systems, CAN bus, diagnostics (OBD-II, J1939), and communication standards
- Familiarity with legacy vehicle communication protocols
- Strong work ethic, problem-solving skills, and customer-facing confidence
- Interest or experience in automotive telematics and logistics
- Ability to script using Python, Bash, or SQL
