About the role:

The Lead Offshore Inspector is responsible for supervising inspection, testing, and certification activities for lifting equipment and associated accessories to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, industry standards, and company procedures. The role combines hands-on technical inspection work with team leadership, quality assurance, and client liaison responsibilities. You’ll take on a leadership role where your technical expertise is valued, giving you the opportunity to shape high standards of inspection while mentoring and developing others within a skilled and supportive team.

As a part of our Certification & Inspection team, you’ll become part of a small, hardworking, and skilled team who are used to working collaboratively and to high standards. You’ll be supported by our Technical Authority and Operations teams in Kintore, who care deeply about what they do and the impact they have on the services we provide. And you’ll be working alongside a committed and proud Motive team in the UK and globally that want to play their part in the growth of the business and support each other daily to create a positive, values-driven and hard-working professional environment.
Responsibilities:
- Adopt and promote the Motive Offshore Group People Values and ensuring their use is embedded throughout.
- Be a positive ambassador for Motive Offshore Group Ltd.
- Lead by example in setting the highest possible standards in the promotion of People Values, HSEQ procedures and best practice, ensuring compliance to the Motive Offshore Group HSEQ Policy, procedures, standards and regulatory obligations.
- Immediately report all accidents, incidents, near misses or environmental concerns.
- Adhere to and participate in company-wide sustainability policies, procedures and initiatives as they are developed to support our Net Zero objectives.
- A Lead Inspector is responsible for the completion of Inspection Services and the report package in a timely manner.
- Carrying out LOLER / IMCA / Class inspection and testing of Cranes, Dive Systems (SAT and AIR Dive) and ROV LARS and associated equipment.
- Responsible for leading LOLER Initial Surveys and follow up surveys.
- Performing Pedestal Crane Inspections and Load Testing.
- Performing Load Testing – Dive Systems (SAT & AIR).
- Performing Load Testing – ROV LARS & Associated Equipment.
- Performing Cargo Carrying Unit Inspections.
- Duties will include load testing, NDT, dimensional and functional inspection of equipment related to the renewables, Oil & Gas Industry, management of personnel and equipment.
- Responsible for the overall safety of themselves and all others, overseeing other Inspectors to ensure inspections and reporting is completed as per company procedures.
- Further duties include onsite training and assisting with ongoing personnel competency.
- Maintain a high level of familiarity with relevant legislation, industry standards, and best practice guidance.
- Competent in meeting client reporting standards through accurate and detailed report generation using Motive’s Kinetic portal and Microsoft Office (Excel and Word).
- Provide on-site supervision and mentoring to inspection technicians and trainee inspectors.
- Where qualified and deemed competent, carry out spooling activities such as wire rope and cable removal, change out and installation.
- Where qualified and deemed competent, undertake wire rope maintenance activities including E-Mag / MRT testing, socket termination work, and operation of spooling equipment.
- Where qualified, carry out pressure lubrication of all types of high-performance wire ropes in accordance with working procedures and COSHH Assessments.
- Stocktake equipment on arrival at worksite, communicating any anomalies and or damage to the client and Operations Coordinator.
- Operate equipment as per clients’ instructions, ensuring all daily checks and paperwork are completed.
- Complete Daily Client Service Record Forms in full, with accurate times and descriptions obtaining signed approval from the client.
- Demobilise equipment at the worksite and prepare for shipping, completing any necessary cargo manifests.
- On occasions of increased workshop SoW, undertake and assist with general workshop duties.
- Adherence to client and Motive safe working practices and quality assurance systems.
- Travelling to worldwide destinations as and when required with some flexibility in unexpected changes.
Required skills / knowledge:
- Industry experience with LOLER / IMCA / Class inspection and testing of Cranes, Dive Systems (SAT and AIR Dive) and ROV LARS and associated equipment.
- Experience of leading LOLER Initial Surveys and follow up surveys.
- Capable of performing Pedestal Crane Inspections and Load Testing.
- Good Communication Skills - Fluent in written and spoken English.
- Be self-motivated, well-presented, and professional.
- BOSIET / UKOOA Offshore Medical / MIST.
- Ability to prioritise, work on own initiative and as part of a team.
- LEEA (FOU) Foundation or equivalent.
- LEEA (LAC) Lifting Accessories or equivalent.
- PCN or SNT – MT, PT, ET.
- Experience in detailed report writing.
- Experience in load testing and in safe use of waterbags.
- Experience leading teams.
- IRATA Rope Access – Any Level.
- LEEA – Machine Powered.

- Socketing certificate.
