Motiontech designs, builds, and maintains automated distribution centres for major UK retailers. Specialising in conveyors, sorters, cranes, and hanging garment systems, their engineers keep some of the UK's largest supply chains running around the clock. It's technical, fast-moving work, and the team culture reflects that.
This is a newly created role, built to strengthen the on-site automation team in Hinckley. You'll act as the technical lead for a team of 12 engineers, working alongside the Engineering Manager and the customer's operational team. Success here means fewer breakdowns, a more capable team, and an automation system that consistently delivers.
You will:
- Lead and coach 12 engineers, building technical confidence across the team
- Diagnose complex faults and resolve issues others can't, escalating where needed
- Develop 'how-to' guides and easy-works documentation from real solutions
- Manage stores and spares, building supplier relationships and protecting parts availability
- Ensure Planned Preventative Maintenance is completed on time via the CMMS
- Identify upgrade and lifecycle projects to improve throughput and reduce obsolescence
- Cover the Engineering Manager during absences and support the 24/7 escalation rota
What you'll bring
Essential:
- Proven experience in automation engineering (conveyors, sorters, cranes, or similar)
- ONC/HNC in engineering (electrical bias preferred) or time-served apprenticeship equivalent
- Strong fault diagnosis and problem-solving capability at an advanced level
- Experience leading or supervising a technical team
Useful, not essential:
- Exposure to hanging garment systems
- Experience with a Computerised Maintenance System (CMMS)
- Background in customer-facing or contract maintenance environments
