We are hiring a Maintenance Engineer at MotionTech in Sherburn-in-Elmet, Leeds. This is your chance to join a business where engineers are genuinely valued, benefit from ongoing training and mentorship, and enjoy a package worth up to ÂŁ48,500 + potential bonuses. You will also be part of a workplace culture built on teamwork, loyalty, and world-class standards of engineering.

At MotionTech, we design and deliver automation solutions that keep household-name retailers moving. Our Sherburn facility is home to state-of-the-art equipment including Geek+ robotics, Sparck packaging technology, Sealed Air B+ systems, conveyors, and telescopic booms. We are proud to achieve 99.8% machine availability - a testament to the skill of our engineers and the strength of our preventative maintenance culture.

But what really sets us apart is our team. We foster a “family feel” environment where camaraderie, investment in people, and professional pride are central. You will be joining a close-knit group led by experienced managers who are passionate about mentoring and making engineering an engaging, rewarding career.

The Role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and ensuring all activities are recorded in our Computerised Maintenance Management System.
  • Diagnosing, repairing, and servicing a wide range of advanced automated equipment.
  • Responding to breakdowns, balancing proactive and reactive work to keep production flowing.
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives to boost performance and reduce downtime.
  • Mentoring less experienced engineers and sharing knowledge across the team.
  • Upholding high standards of health, safety, and housekeeping.

A typical day includes PPM inspections, attending morning briefings, analysing data, and tackling robot or packaging equipment repairs. Breakdowns are less frequent thanks to our strong systems, so your expertise really adds value when things get tough.

What We Are Looking For

  • Electrically biased Maintenance Engineer (or proven Electrical Engineer with transferable skills).
  • ONC/HNC or NVQ Level 3 in Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Experience in automation, manufacturing, or installation is highly desirable.
  • Strong fault-finding, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • A proactive, can-do attitude and a collaborative, team-first approach.

We value mindset and attitude as much as technical skill – if you are eager to learn and committed to high standards, you will thrive here.

Salary & Benefits

  • ÂŁ48,500 base salary (inclusive of shift allowance).
  • Potential for performance-based six-monthly bonus.
  • 22 days holiday plus site closure on Christmas Eve night/Christmas Day.
  • 3% matched pension and death-in-service benefit worth 6x salary.
  • Structured training and development plans, including electrical courses, mentoring, and access to unique “Easy Works” knowledge packs created in-house to fast-track learning.
  • Work with cutting-edge automation and robotics in a modern, well-maintained facility.
  • Supportive management, team camaraderie, and a culture that values your voice.

Shift Pattern: 4 days on / 4 off, 4 nights on / 4 off (06:00–18:00 and 18:00–06:00).

Location: MotionTech, GXO Facility, Hurricane Way, Sherburn-in-Elmet, Leeds, LS25 6PT.
