Product Manager who thrives in a dynamic environment to identify both the current and future business challenges our customers face and clearly articulate the value that we could bring through our product solutions to solve those challenges. Working with our engineering teams, you will be responsible for managing product portfolio(s) and creating value for our customers and the business. You will own the entire Product lifecycle for your products, identifying new opportunities to add value through product discovery whilst also managing and prioritising the product backlog.
You will work on a variety of challenges to deliver complex products and solutions, predominantly into Motorsport, including to Formula 1, NASCAR, IndyCar, Formula E and MotoGP. These products consist of both hardware and software elements. This role focuses on products in the Motorsport Sensors portfolio. Motion Applied develop and deliver highly customised and ruggedised sensors for the Motorsport market. This includes sensor families such as Speed sensors, Temperature and Pressure sensors, Linear and Rotary position sensors, Accelerometers, Gyros and IMUs, Tyre pressure monitoring systems, Torque measurement systems and Alternators. With highly customisable products, portfolio management is a key part of this role, with many hundreds of SKU’s and variants. Some sensor products also include processing, communications and intelligence, such as the Tyre pressure and Torque measurement systems.
Principal Accountabilities
- Day-to-day responsibilities will span the entire product management lifecycle and include deep interaction with customers, sales, support and engineering.
- Manage and own the roadmap, including introduction of new products and prioritisation of bug-fixes and feature requests that are aligned with business goals.
- Engage with customers, business unit and support functions to gather market requirements and set priorities.
- Define product specs, user stories, mockups, acceptance criteria and drive execution in collaboration with engineering and QA/Systems teams. This will involve getting hands on with our products.
- Drive improved product knowledge and usability, to increase accessible value.
- Own the business rationale for the product, covering existing and future products over full lifecycle - concept to end of life.
- Own and report on key KPIs for product performance, including business cases, product P&L and ROI.
- Collaborate closely with Product Managers to other product portfolios, ensuring a cohesive market proposition that integrates multiple products seamlessly, both hardware and software.
- Take ownership of managing assigned product portfolio in its primary markets and exploring expansion to other markets.
- Collaborate with product marketing and business teams to support content creation, product positioning, pricing and drive Go-To-Market.
- Work with production, procurement and planning functions to understand and influence product design and development priorities that improve delivery efficiency, contributing to overall portfolio success.
- Design for Manufacture, Assembly and Test. Component selection and BOM management.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience
- Strong technical background. Preferably a degree in engineering or science discipline.
- Experience with highly customed, high-performance products delivered to harsh environments - ideally into Motorsport.
- Knowledge of sensing equipment and technology, including design and manufacture of sensing elements, PCB’s and mechanical housings.
- Knowledge of Alternator / Generator units an advantage.
- Management of product lines with high configurability / SKU count.
- Ideal candidate will be someone with an engineering background / hands on experience with technical products delivered into Motorsport, who has / wants to transition into a more commercially focused role.
- Ability to interpret technical implementation and translate into customer and commercial impact (and vice versa).
- Ability to tactfully challenge without alienating and build a strong internal network to support ability to influence.
- Able to interpret and communicate general financial and accounting information from a product perspective and understand the financial impact of decisions.
- Identifies and prioritises issues and takes a proactive approach to dealing with them.
- Thinks creatively to produce workable ideas and novel solutions.
- Takes a collaborative approach to achieving results.
