Purpose of the Role
The Head of Quality is the strategic leader and owner of the full quality ecosystem across Motion Applied. This role defines, oversees, and continually improves Internal Quality, Customer Quality, and Supplier Quality spanning both the Motorsport and Electrification business units. You will drive a culture of operational excellence, ensuring that products, processes, and partners consistently meet world-class standards. The role is accountable for the development of the Quality Management System, quality strategy, and organisational capability, ensuring that Motion Applied delivers high performance, exceptional customer experience, and robust supplier assurance.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Quality Leadership
- Develop and own the enterprise-wide Quality Strategy covering internal, customer, and supplier quality for Motorsport and Electrification divisions.
- Define quality KPIs, governance, and performance expectations for the business, aligning with corporate vision and regulatory standards.
- Lead cross-functional quality improvement initiatives, embedding a proactive and preventative mindset across engineering, operations, programmes, and supply chain.
- Internal Quality Management
- Support the Head of Certification with the operation of the Quality Management System (QMS) ensuring alignment to ISO 9001, IPC Class 3, and internal engineering/production standards.
- Drive a culture of right-first-time through process optimisation, robust change control, and effective quality assurance.
- Customer Quality
- Champion customer quality and satisfaction through ownership of field return data, customer-driven investigations, and management of customer-specific quality requirements.
- Act as the senior escalation point for all customer quality issues, ensuring structured root cause analysis (8D, fault tree, problem-solving tools).
- Present quality performance, risk, and improvement roadmaps to customers and senior stakeholders.
- Supplier Quality & External Interfaces
- Lead the Supplier Quality Function and own the supplier approval, development, and risk management model.
- Ensure robust qualification of new suppliers and scalability of supply chain partners through audit programmes, scorecards, and improvement plans.
- Oversee resolution of supplier non-conformances, including MRB, NCM process governance, and long-term corrective actions.
- Partner with Programme Management to identify and mitigate quality risks across NPI, production, and service support.
- Support critical programmes by ensuring quality readiness, PPAP/FAI validation, and supplier quality assurance.
- Ensure quality considerations are embedded early in design, sourcing, and manufacturing decisions.
- Leadership & People Development
- Build and lead a high-performing multi-disciplinary quality organisation.
- Coach Quality Engineers, SQEs, and internal stakeholders on standards, tools, and best practices.
- Foster a culture of openness, accountability, and continuous improvement across the business.
- Produce and present consolidated Supplier Quality, Internal Quality, and Customer Quality metrics.
- Lead system-wide continuous improvement initiatives supporting the company goal.
- Use strong data analytics to drive decisions and justify strategic or operational actions.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience leading end-to-end quality organisations across supplier, internal, and customer quality domains.
- Strong background in quality, engineering, automotive, motorsport, or electrification environments.
- Demonstrated experience developing and governing advanced quality systems (ISO9001, IATF16949 or equivalent).
- Experienced in leading complex internal and external audits; BSI Lead Auditor qualification preferable.
- Strong communicator capable of influencing at executive level and fostering cross-functional alignment.
- Demonstrated ability to build high-performing quality teams and drive cultural transformation.
- Highly analytical with deep understanding of best-in-class quality methodologies, tools, and industry benchmarks.
- Engineering degree or equivalent technical background.
- Experience in multi-disciplinary environments and leadership of quality strategy across organisational boundaries.
