About Mother: Mother is one of the world’s most respected, independent creative companies. We started around one table with three people, all of whom shared the washing up. 27 years on, Mother has offices in London, New York, Los Angeles, Shanghai, Singapore and Berlin. We create ideas for our clients that are embraced by popular culture and deliver more powerfully as a result. Our ambition is to be a destination for the most creative minds in the world. Our mission is to make the best work we can, have fun doing it, earn a living, and make our children proud along the way.
The Role: The Biscuit Building isn’t a "corporate office"—it’s a home away from home. A creative space inspiring collaboration and innovation, and we’re looking for a Crew Captain to help keep it ship shape. This is a newly created position blending team leadership of The Crew with top-tier hospitality, fast-paced facilities management, and event execution. We’re looking for someone with infectious energy and a ‘mothering’ sensibility, to truly make the role their own and nurture The Crew at a crucial time in their fledgling careers.
About The Crew: The Crew is our grassroots, entry level talent scheme, providing an alternative route into the industry for anyone looking to break into Adland, regardless of experience. The Crew essentially manage our office space, ensuring that every person who comes through our doors - our people, clients and guests - enjoy a first class Mother experience. It’s an extremely hands-on role, requiring energy, passion, organisation and resilience to juggle the wide variety of tasks and responsibilities in a fun, fast-paced environment. Throughout their 15 month placements they build foundational skills key to any and all job roles within Advertising (collaboration, communication, time management), whilst also gaining invaluable exposure to client work and creative processes. After completing the programme they’re given the opportunity to do a 6 month placement in the department of their choice.
Key Responsibilities & Areas of Impact:
- ‘Mothering’ The Crew: Manage, support, and lead our team of 6 Crew members. You’ll learn the intricacies of their roles to train, develop and support them with the daily running of Mother HQ. From daily building checks, to purchasing to inbox management. You’ll prioritise tasks, maximise efficiency, anticipate issues and find solutions. Acting as their supervisor and mentor, you’ll help them navigate a fast-paced creative environment and grow as individuals.
- Front of House & Hospitality: Ensure our home is constantly welcoming and immaculately presented. With up to 200 meetings a day, you will take ownership of ensuring all meeting rooms and breakout spaces look and feel perfect. You’ll manage client setups, ensuring our guests are attentively welcomed and refreshed. Offering and delivering tea, coffee, cakes, lunch orders, and treats as needed.
- Keeping things Ship Shape: Working into our H/O Facilities and Facilities Manager, you’ll provide a fast, proactive response to any maintenance issues. Where needed you’ll log issues, book and oversee the appropriate contractor.
- Pitch Support: You'll play a key role in new business pitches. Transforming spaces, sourcing props, and curating hospitality to build unforgettable experiences for prospective clients.
- Epic Events: You’ll own the operational requirements and logistics of internal gatherings and DAM [Downstairs at Mother] events. Collaborating with internal teams, setting-up the space, booking security and cleaners, managing recharge costs, and ensuring everything in the house is fully reset for the next morning.
- Household Budgeting: Act as the gatekeeper for our larger operations budget. Overseeing daily ad-hoc purchases and approving Crew spend. You’ll monitor key supplier contracts (post, courier, linen, and alcohol), and negotiate to ensure we get the best value.
About You:
- Your Background: You’ll likely come from a fast-paced production background, or a high-end hospitality or events environment. Looking to and are now looking for more standard daytime hours.
- High Standards: You have an uncompromising eye for detail when it comes to hospitality, building maintenance, and kitchen/pantry operations.
- Natural Leader: You genuinely enjoy training and guiding entry-level talent, helping them learn and grow without a hint of ego.
- Savvy & Sensible: You are comfortable handling budgets, pushing back on suppliers, and finding the best value without compromising on quality.
- The Mother Attitude: You have a positive, calming, 'can do' attitude, a lack of ego, and a willingness to get your hands dirty. You can think on your feet, adapt to change, and juggle a busy schedule with a smile.
