Mother Root is the fiery ginger non-alcoholic aperitif. We harness the power of apple cider vinegar to serve up a dose of good feelings. Our mission is to redefine the evening ritual of drinking well and feeling good, with drinks that are complex, delicious and rooted in nature. We're the UK's fastest growing drinks brand and the number one non-alcoholic spirit. We were a £7m business last year and we're on track for more than £20m this year. Next we're accelerating that growth, and becoming one of the leading non-alcoholic brands in the US as well as the UK. Small but mighty team, big category, plenty still to build. We're building a team where ambitious people do the best work of their careers, supporting each other and making something they truly believe in. We believe work should be joyful, purposeful and full of flavour.

The Role: As Mother Root brings finance fully in-house, replacing our outsourced finance partner, the Finance Manager becomes the engine room of the function: the person who owns the numbers from first entry through to finished management accounts. Reporting to our Head of Finance, and working closely with our Finance Executive during the handover period, you'll take on the bookkeeping oversight, month-end close and management accounts production that currently sit with our outgoing outsourced provider, and make them your own. This is a brand new role, created as we build our in-house finance team and complete a full exit from outsourced finance. You'll join at a pivotal moment, helping design the processes and controls that will support Mother Root at £50m and beyond, not just maintain what already exists. This is a full-time, hybrid role with 3 days a week + at our London HQ (Fora, Farringdon).

What You’ll Do:

  • Own the month-end close and produce accurate, on-time management accounts (P&L, balance sheet and cash flow) to an agreed monthly timetable.
  • Oversee day-to-day bookkeeping and transaction processing, so the ledger is a reliable source of truth.
  • Complete balance sheet reconciliations (bank, VAT, inventory, accruals) and keep documentation clean and audit-ready.
  • Prepare UK VAT returns and support wider UK and US statutory compliance alongside our external accountants.
  • Take on the 13-week direct cash flow forecast, working with the Head of Finance on the handover from our outgoing outsourced partner.
  • Provide clean actuals and historical data to support the annual budget, 3-year plan and rolling forecast.
  • Build our new direct working relationship with our external accountants and tax advisors, as we take this relationship in-house.
  • Support the Head of Finance on stock and COGS reconciliation projects and audit readiness, and spot opportunities to automate manual processes such as bank reconciliations, VAT workings and reporting.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or similar), or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Proven experience owning a month-end close and producing management accounts, gained in a fast-growing consumer or FMCG business with exposure to inventory or COGS accounting.
  • Confidence with Xero (or a similar cloud accounting platform), strong Excel or Google Sheets skills.
  • Demonstrable curiosity in using AI tools to speed up finance workflows.
  • A methodical, detail-focused approach paired with real curiosity about the story behind the numbers.
  • Comfortable taking on full ownership of a function during a live handover from an outsourced provider.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, with the judgement to flag a risk before it becomes a problem.

Nice to have: experience with UK and US compliance.

You’ll Thrive Here If You:

  • Love turning a messy ledger into a clean, trusted set of numbers.
  • Want real ownership from day one, not just business-as-usual maintenance.
  • Are excited to help shape a finance function as it moves fully in-house, rather than join one that's already built.
  • Work calmly under the pressure of a close, and don't let details slip.
  • Enjoy working with people across the business, helping teams make better decisions with better information.

Benefits & Perks:

  • Share Options Programme.
  • Hybrid working: 3 x a week in office (Mon, Tues, Thurs) & 2 from home.
  • Annual Leave: 25 days per year.
  • Summer Hours: Early finish Fridays (June–August).
  • Work From Anywhere: Up to 2 weeks per year.
  • Pension: Up to 5% matched contribution.
  • Cycle Scheme: Bike or Lime/Forest Pass.
  • Personal Development: £300 annual allowance for approved training.
  • Wellbeing Support: Access to Spill app & Heka allowance (£40/month) + birthday/work anniversary boosts.
  • Annual Team Trip: Gastronomical & wellbeing-focused team away trip.
  • Parental Leave: Competitive maternity/paternity package.
  • Lots of free Mother Root.
