Welcome to Motel. Our story began during a road trip in the 1990s, where our founders, Will and Andy, travelled across America collecting vintage items while living out of motels. They started purchasing vintage clothing in the USA and selling it wholesale, which eventually led to the creation of stores. From there, they began designing reworked vintage pieces, and thus, Motel was born. Over 30 years and a team of 200+ people later, every piece of clothing we make is created with the same spirit of fun, freedom and adventure as the road trip that first defined the brand. We’re still ambitious and independent, but now we’re a global team – we work from an operational base in Worcester, a design studio in London and a creative studio in Bali.

The Role: As the Assistant Garment Technologist, you’ll support the delivery of a consistent, high-quality product across all Motel categories. You’ll play a critical role in supporting the technical development process and transforming creative designs into commercially viable products. You’ll work across multiple areas, supporting the delivery of high-quality, well-fitting products that meet Motel brand standards, customer expectations and critical path deadlines. This role offers the opportunity to build strong technical foundations while gaining exposure to the full product lifecycle in a fast‑paced, design‑led environment.

Main tasks & responsibilities:

  • Technical Development & Fit Support: You’ll support the technical and design teams to ensure product fit, quality, and aesthetic standards are delivered consistently. Support product and design teams to ensure Motel aesthetic is achieved across all products. With guidance from the Senior Garment Tech, support fit consistency across each collection, ensuring garments meet brand quality standards. Develop Product Development Packs ensuring accuracy of information to improve ‘right first time’ sampling. Work closely with yarn suppliers and factories to ensure adherence to required specification and quality standards.
  • Fit Sessions & Product Development: You’ll play an active role in supporting fit sessions, learning best practice and taking ownership of some product areas. Assist in fit meetings with Design, taking detailed notes and images and supporting follow‑up actions. Ensure tech packs are updated with fit comments and measurement specifications and communicated to suppliers in line with the critical path.
  • Critical Path & Product Tracking: You’ll help ensure technical processes remain on track, maintaining accuracy across product development stages. Maintain and update the development tracker throughout the sampling process. Support adherence to the critical path, ensuring all updates and actions are completed on time. Assist in risk assessment of product, working closely with Senior Garment Tech, Buy and Production teams. Support Motel's sustainability initiatives by considering how our practices can improve, actively working in line with the sustainability journey of the business.
