We are looking for an enthusiastic, resourceful and proactive early‑career Actuary to join MO’s Insurance Risk team during an exciting period of development for MO’s insurance arrangements. This role reports to the Lead Actuary and is ideal for someone with actuarial experience who wants to deepen technical skills—particularly in capital modelling and reserving—within a small but high‑impact team.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development, maintenance and use of the insurance components of MO’s economic capital model.
  • Reserve in support of MO Reinsurance Limited.
  • Price in support of our relationship with our insurance partner.
  • Work with our broker to analyse and support our reinsurance programmes.
  • Co‑ordinate development of the actuarial approach applied, working with actuaries and consultants to carry out analysis in‑house wherever possible.
  • Interact extensively with third parties who support MO’s risk model, including the insurance partner, reinsurance broker, peer‑review partner, auditors and MO risk‑management leaders.

Study Support & Development

Upon successfully completing the probation period and demonstrating satisfactory progress in the role, MO will support the successful applicant with actuarial study days and payment of relevant fees as the Actuary works through IFOA exams.

About You

  • Actuarial or analytical experience within insurance or a related environment.
  • Experience or interest in general insurance capital modelling and/or reserving/pricing.
  • Exposure to capital modelling (economic capital, solvency, stress & scenario testing) is highly preferred.
  • Experience with Tyche or similar actuarial modelling software is desirable but not essential.
  • Strong organisational skills, self‑starter, ability to prioritise and manage workload.
  • Disciplined, structured approach and methodology.
  • Enjoys solving problems and delivering smart solutions.
  • Works collaboratively or independently to achieve objectives.
  • Excellent written, oral, presentation and interpersonal skills; able to present information confidently to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Graduate with a relevant numerical degree.
  • Progress towards IFoA qualification, typically with passes in CS1 and/or CM1, and strong interest in general/motor insurance.
  • Strong analytical skills, including advanced Excel and experience working with large datasets (Python or R experience is an advantage but not required).
  • Candidates with capital modelling or reserving experience, and/or motor insurance experience, are strongly preferred.
