Overview
Salary: £36,000 to £38,000 per annum
Location: Ideally you'll be based in Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, Wiltshire, Hampshire or Dorset, with the flexibility to travel across West coast and South coast as required. Based 4 days on the road, 1 day per week home based. Occasional travel to our office in Harlow, Essex is required.
Applications are invited from individuals with prior experience as an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI). This is a development role where you will learn the key skills and knowledge base required to work independently as a Mobility and Driving Advisor. You will undertake a comprehensive training programme to be able to carry out holistic face to face mobility assessments with our beneficiaries, in relation to vehicle and adaptation requirements and prepare detailed assessment reports to support charitable funding decisions.
Responsibilities
- Gain the skills required to become competent in conducting independent driver and passenger mobility assessments.
- This will involve assessing physical and cognitive abilities to recommend the most appropriate solution in terms of the driving task, driver controls, vehicle access and egress and equipment stowage to enable beneficiaries to utilise the vehicle and gain independence.
- Working with and learning from our existing Mobility and Driving Advisors, drawing on their wealth of knowledge and experience.
- Delivering excellent customer service both internally and externally.
- Organising and prioritising workloads to ensure deadlines are met and best practice is followed.
- Developing an in-depth knowledge of a range of mobility solutions and adaptations including their functions and limitations.
- Developing an in-depth knowledge of medical conditions and how these affect mobility and the use of vehicles.
- Gaining an in-depth knowledge of a range of Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles and solutions that can be used as a driver or passenger.
- Assisting customers, carers or driving instructors with vehicle and adaptation familiarisation.
- Producing detailed, accurate and timely assessment reports based on the functional assessment that comply with best practice and standards.
- Gaining an in-depth knowledge of grant procedures from application through to grant award.
- Promote awareness of Motability Foundation's services and responsibilities to stakeholders and other external organisations.
- To develop relationships with stage 1 and stage 2 vehicle converters including demonstrating their vehicles.
- To become proficient in the understanding of technology, standards and legislation relating to vehicles, driving instruction and adaptations.
- Attend industry specific exhibitions, meetings with external stakeholders and fundraising events.
About you
Must haves:
- Experience as an Approved Driving Instructor.
- Experience in a training environment or current technical knowledge of mobility solutions.
- Educated to ‘GCSE’/’O’ Level/NVQ 3 (minimum) standard (Mathematics and English).
- Previous experience in a customer focused environment.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Full clean UK driving license.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Confidence to deal positively with challenges that are presented.
- A can-do attitude.
Nice to have:
- Experience of working within the disability sector.
- Experience of working with vulnerable people.
- Experience of medical conditions and how these affect mobility and independence.
- Working knowledge of Customer Relationship Management systems.
- Experience of disabling conditions and how this affects mobility.
