We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the successful delivery of construction and refurbishment projects, overseeing design processes from pre-construction through to project completion.
The successful candidate will manage multiple projects, coordinate consultants and stakeholders, and ensure all design information is delivered to programme, budget, and quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Support the appointment of consultants and manage the legal review process to secure completed consultant appointments.
- Manage the design process for a portfolio of small to medium-sized construction projects and pre-construction opportunities.
- Review and technically appraise Building Safety Regulator (BSR) submissions, ranging from major developments to smaller-scale works.
- Develop and manage design programmes to ensure information is available for procurement and construction activities within required timescales.
- Coordinate planning and gateway submissions, including applications, amendments, and condition clearances.
- Procure and manage building control, warranty providers, and other specialist consultants required for project delivery.
- Review and approve design information, ensuring drawings achieve the necessary approvals and construction status.
- Support project teams in client liaison, design change management, and instruction processes.
- Monitor and manage consultant and subcontractor design performance to ensure successful project outcomes.
- Collaborate closely with operational teams to ensure design information is practical, coordinated, and easy to implement on site.
- Identify innovative solutions and value engineering opportunities to enhance project efficiency and performance.
- Provide pre-construction support, including site visits, technical input, risk identification, design solutions, and tender submissions.
- Attend client meetings, technical presentations, and industry learning events to maintain professional development.
- Degree-level qualification or relevant professional chartered status within a construction-related discipline.
- Significant experience in a Design Manager or similar role within the construction industry.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with clients, consultants, and project teams.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience supporting both single-stage and two-stage tendering processes.
- Working knowledge of JCT, NEC, and PPC forms of contract.
- Proficiency in project planning and design management software, including Asta Powerproject and/or Microsoft Project.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- A proactive, results-focused approach with a commitment to delivering projects successfully.
