We are seeking a proactive and experienced Small Works Manager to oversee the delivery of planned maintenance and small project works across a portfolio of retail sites. This hands-on role involves scoping, planning, and managing projects such as gas boiler and water heater replacements, planned repairs, and minor refurbishments, all within live retail environments.
The ideal candidate will bring strong technical knowledge—especially in gas systems and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, customer-focused setting.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage and deliver small works projects including planned maintenance, repairs, and mechanical system upgrades (e.g., gas boilers, water heaters).
- Conduct site visits to scope and assess project requirements, produce estimates and method statements.
- Liaise with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and in-house teams to coordinate work schedules and ensure minimal disruption to retail operations.
- Ensure all works are completed safely, on time, and within budget, complying with health & safety and industry regulations.
- Maintain detailed project records, track progress, and report on key milestones and issues.
- Oversee gas works in live environments, ensuring compliance with all relevant gas safety regulations and permits.
- Build strong working relationships with retail clients to ensure excellent service delivery.
- Proven experience managing small works or planned maintenance projects in retail, commercial, or similar live environments.
- Strong technical knowledge of gas systems, water heating, and general building services.
- Experience working in live, fast-paced environments with an understanding of the importance of minimal disruption to trading.
- Ability to read technical drawings, scope works, and produce cost estimates and project documentation.
- Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Gas Safe Registered (or working towards).
- Health & Safety qualifications (e.g., SMSTS or SSSTS) – desirable.
- Full UK driving licence – required.
