Job Description
Role: M&E Engineering Lead
Location: Croydon, site based
We are seeking an experienced and motivated M&E Lead Engineer with a proven track record in supervising technical engineering teams. The role covers a commercial building with satellite sites, requiring expertise in HV/LV and mechanical building services. Reporting to the Head of Communications and Customer Experience, you will play a key role in delivering reactive, planned, and ad hoc maintenance tasks.
Main Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate a team in delivering daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance activities to meet contractual and compliance obligations.
- Schedule and complete planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on M&E systems, focusing on critical building systems to ensure zero disruption to operations.
- Monitor and maintain plant and equipment, ensuring a safe working environment and proactively identifying and resolving faults.
- Carry out ad-hoc and planned maintenance in line with Approved Codes of Practice, British/International Standards, regulations, and industry best practice (including SFG20).
- Ensure all compliance certification is up to date, valid, and properly documented.
- Liaise with suppliers and contractors for parts, repairs, and services in line with CAFM system requirements.
- Manage third-party subcontractors to ensure safe and compliant service delivery, including RAMS review and issuing of work permits.
- Interface with external stakeholders to ensure smooth service delivery.
- Ensure all reactive tasks are logged and resolved within agreed SLAs.
- Attend emergency breakdowns, carrying out fault diagnosis and repair to maintain business continuity, including occasional out-of-hours support.
Experience & Safety
- Promote a strong safety culture across the contract, ensuring RAMS and safe systems of work are followed.
- Maintain accurate training records for the team.
- Support operational and QSHE safety meetings, audits, and inspections to maintain compliance.
- Demonstrate at least 5 years of supervisory experience in Building Services or Facilities Management.
- Ensure safe and compliant operations in line with Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) and UK/EU regulations.
- Provide health and safety leadership in line with company Quality Management Systems and statutory requirements.
Essential Skills
- Experienced in daily interaction with operational management and engineers.
- Strong coordination and planning skills.
- Proven ability to supervise teams and liaise effectively across all management levels.
- 3–5 years’ experience in Building Services or Facilities Management.
- Competence in statutory compliance requirements.
- IT literacy, including Microsoft Office and CAFM systems.
- Knowledge of SFG20 maintenance standards.
- Effective verbal and written communication across all business levels and external stakeholders.
- Customer-focused, delivering results and meeting expectations.
- Self-motivated, resilient, and results-driven with a positive outlook.
- Calm under pressure and assertive when required.
