We are seeking a skilled and motivated Assistant Commercial Manager to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity for a driven professional to contribute to strategic construction projects while advancing their career. The role involves working on architectural fit-out projects within MOD sites. It is primarily office-based in Reading, with site visits as required.

Key Qualifications & Skills

Certification:

  • Professional body certifications and memberships are desirable but not essential.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor in the construction industry, with a proven track record of successful project delivery.
  • Knowledge of, or strong experience in, estimating is desirable.

Contract Knowledge:

  • Extensive experience with construction contracts.
  • Experience with NEC (New Engineering Contract) is desirable but not essential.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong background in estimating, cost forecasting and reporting, cost control, and risk management.
  • Experience in preparing contract documentation and contract administration.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other relevant software.

Financial Acumen:

  • Strong understanding of financial management principles, including cash flow analysis, cost reporting, and forecasting.

Risk Management:

  • Ability to identify, assess, and mitigate risks throughout the project lifecycle.

Procurement Expertise:

  • Experience in managing procurement processes, including subcontractor selection, preparing subcontract documents, and negotiating with suppliers.

Legal Compliance:

  • Familiarity with construction-related legislation and the ability to ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Ability to analyse data, identify trends, and provide cost-effective solutions.

  • Meticulous in reviewing contracts, specifications, and financial reports to ensure accuracy and compliance.

  • Skilled in negotiating contracts, pricing, and terms with suppliers and subcontractors to maximise project profitability.

Time Management:

  • Exceptional organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

Problem-Solving:

  • Strong problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to address issues quickly and effectively.

Leadership & Teamwork:

  • Experience in leading and mentoring team members and working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

Adaptability:

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adjust to changing project demands.
