Overview
An organisation operating a multi-site fleet is seeking a Transport Manager to oversee the operational management, compliance, and maintenance of a mixed vehicle fleet including HGVs. The role will ensure vehicles are maintained to a high standard, regulatory requirements are met, and transport operations run efficiently. The successful candidate will also line manage one direct report and work closely with operational teams across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Fleet Management
- Oversee the management and maintenance of a mixed fleet including HGV vehicles
- Ensure vehicle maintenance schedules and defect reporting processes are followed
- Manage relationships with vehicle maintenance providers and repair contractors
- Oversee the inspection and onboarding/offboarding of fleet vehicles
- Compliance & Regulation
- Ensure compliance with UK transport legislation and DVSA regulations
- Monitor driver and vehicle compliance including tachograph records, licences, and vehicle checks
- Manage Operator Licence requirements and related compliance processes
- Support preparation for and participation in transport compliance audits
- Operational Performance
- Develop and maintain transport policies, procedures, and performance measures
- Monitor fleet performance and operational costs, identifying opportunities for improvement
- Investigate vehicle incidents and insurance claims and oversee resolution
- Produce regular reports on fleet performance and compliance for senior management
- Systems & Reporting
- Maintain accurate fleet data within the Transport Management System
- Track vehicle compliance, costs, maintenance activity, and operational performance
- Team Leadership
- Line management responsibility for one team member within the transport function
- Support their performance, development, and training needs
- Promote high standards of safety, compliance, and operational efficiency
Essential
- Transport Manager CPC qualification (National or International)
- Minimum 3 years experience in transport or fleet management
- Experience managing HGV or mixed vehicle fleets
- Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation and compliance requirements
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
Desirable
- HGV driving licence
- Health & Safety qualification (IOSH or NEBOSH)
- Full UK driving licence
- Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office and transport management systems
