Position Summary: The Reinsurance Manager is responsible for the end‑to‑end management of Mosaic’s outwards reinsurance function, ensuring effective programme implementation, robust operational delivery and strong governance. The role works closely with underwriting, who lead the development of reinsurance strategy and purchasing decisions, providing technical input, independent review and practical challenge where appropriate. Alongside this, the role is responsible for the timely and accurate execution of core reinsurance activities, ensuring outputs meet internal, regulatory and audit requirements. Working closely with underwriting, finance, actuarial and claims teams, the role acts as a central point of coordination while maintaining close involvement in the detail of reinsurance operations and outputs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational Management
    • Ensure the accurate and timely execution of all reinsurance activities across the function
    • Maintain direct oversight of, and involvement in:
      • Bordereaux preparation and submission
      • Contract setup, validation and ongoing maintenance within reinsurance systems
      • Reinsurance settlements, cash processing and reconciliations
      • Claims recoveries tracking, follow-up and resolution
    • Review outputs in detail, resolving discrepancies and ensuring completeness, consistency and data integrity
    • Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation across all reinsurance transactions
  • Financial Control & Reporting
    • Oversee and prepare reinsurance financial outputs, including:
      • Premium and recovery estimates
      • Profit commission calculations
      • Ceded balances and associated reconciliations
    • Ensure timely and accurate reconciliations of reinsurance-related accounts supporting financial reporting and close processes
    • Prepare and analyse reinsurance reporting, including P&L, cash flow and management information
    • Support actuarial and finance teams with data required for reserving and regulatory reporting
  • Controls, Audit & Governance
    • Design, implement and maintain a robust control framework across reinsurance processes with responsibility for ensuring compliance with applicable PBO standards
    • Act as the primary point of contact for internal and external audit, coordinating responses and supporting documentation
    • Ensure adherence to Lloyd’s requirements, internal policies and regulatory standards
    • Maintain strong governance over contract certainty, approvals and documentation quality
  • Credit Control & Cash Management
    • Oversee collection of reinsurance recoveries and settlement of ceded payables
    • Monitor aged balances and drive timely resolution, ensuring strong cash conversion and minimal leakage
    • Maintain oversight of reinsurer exposures and settlement performance
  • Stakeholder Management
    • Act as a central point of coordination between underwriting, finance, actuarial, claims and offshore teams
    • Maintain effective working relationships with brokers and reinsurers, focused on delivery and execution
    • Provide technical guidance to internal stakeholders on reinsurance operations, controls and reporting
  • Systems, Process & Improvement
    • Lead the development and optimisation of reinsurance systems and processes
    • Contribute directly to system implementation, configuration and testing
    • Identify inefficiencies and implement improvements to strengthen control, accuracy and timeliness
    • Support development of scalable processes aligned with the target operating model
  • Reinsurance Strategy & Placement
    • Partner with underwriting to support the implementation of the outwards reinsurance programme including but not limited to providing analysis
    • Undertake analysis to assist in assessing arrangements with reference to cost, recoverability, counterparty exposure and effectiveness
    • Support renewal activity through analysis, preparation and execution, including targeted broker engagement where required

  • Audit & Controls:
    • Ensure all reinsurance balances, transactions and outputs are fully supported, reconciled and audit-ready
    • Maintain clear audit trails and evidential documentation across all processes
  • Technical Ownership:
    • Act as a subject matter expert across reinsurance operations, accounting and controls
    • Ensure accurate interpretation and application of reinsurance contracts within systems and reporting

Skills, Experience, & Education:

  • Strong experience in reinsurance within the Lloyd’s market
  • Deep technical understanding of reinsurance operations, accounting and contract structures
  • Experience with reinsurance systems (e.g. XLPro) and financial reporting processes
  • Strong knowledge of controls, audit requirements and regulatory frameworks
  • High attention to detail and ability to work closely with underlying data and processes
  • Proven ability to deliver outputs directly as well as through oversight of others
  • Effective stakeholder management and communication skills
