Mosaic 1898 Direct Payments Support Service are recruiting for two Personal Assistants for the same position in the LE3 3TZ. Each role is 30 hours per week. This is a post with an immediate start date for the correct candidates. Personal assistants are required to assist in all areas of personal and domestic need as required, and to act as an escort and aid to the employer’s social and day-to-day activities.
Duties (As required, instructed or directed by employer):
- Assist with personal care support:
- Showering, bathing, toileting
- Assisting with dressing
- Assisting with transfers to and from wheelchair
- Preparation of breakfast, lunch, and evening meals
- Assisting with medication
- Developing and implementing individual care plans based on clients’ needs
- Providing personal care such as bathing, dressing, and personal care
- Administration of medications through PEG (training provided)
- Supporting client with mobility and chest physio (training provided)
- Maintaining accurate records of care provided
- Communicating effectively with clients, families, and healthcare professionals
- Using shakey vest, nebuliser and deep suctioning to manage airways (training provided)
- Using a ventilator at night time (training provided)
- Feeding through PEG (training provided)
- Dusting
- Vacuuming / mopping
- Emptying bins
- Making and changing beds
- Cleaning of rooms
- Laundry / drying / ironing clothes
- Washing up
Requires driver with own car available to use for employer – business use insurance necessary.
Working with Children with Disabilities:
To provide assistance at the right time, enabling the child/young person to lead an independent/individual lifestyle in their own home within the community. The PA should understand their role to assist with the self-defined needs of the child/young person, feel confident to ask what these needs are, and listen to requests and follow directions given.
The PA should:
- Meet the job’s physical requirements (e.g. Moving & Handling)
- Arrive at the required times ready to work
- Contact immediately if going to be more than 15 minutes late
- Establish close working relationship on one-to-one basis
- If problems arise, discuss & resolve immediately
- Maintain confidentiality, respect privacy of employer
- Have a current driving licence
The PA’s Attitude:
- Appreciate stresses & strains of disabled employer, and the effect this can have on the acceptance of help
- Understand that the preservation of dignity & independence is important
- Respect the possessions & equipment in the employer’s home
- Use of the telephone, television, radio etc should only be with employer’s prior consent
- Any questions regarding tasks should be clarified before starting
- Duties/hours of work required may vary according to requirements
Learning the Job:
Daily tasks will be learned and familiarised through PA & employer working together. There are Moving & Handling & Hoist Awareness Courses that can be arranged. If PAs do not have formal training certificates, then we recommend that training courses are taken.
