Mortimer House School is seeking a skilled and dedicated English Teacher to join our passionate and supportive team. This is a rewarding opportunity to work with vulnerable young people with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), helping to further enhance our specialist provision and support learners in achieving positive outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Teach within a small SEND provision supporting pupils with a range of needs, including ASD, ADHD, attachment difficulties, and trauma
  • Demonstrate empathy and understanding for young people with mental health and complex needs
  • Contribute to EHCP reviews and multi-agency meetings
  • Plan and deliver engaging schemes of work and lessons aligned with personalised learning outcomes, including Functional Skills and GCSE pathways
  • Complete all required safeguarding, Prevent, and mandatory training annually
  • Build and sustain positive relationships with pupils, parents and carers, external agencies, and community partners
  • Participate in staff meetings and INSET sessions
  • Actively promote Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) development within lessons

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • A current Enhanced DBS check
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection
  • Ability to build positive professional relationships while maintaining clear boundaries
  • A growth mindset and a resilient, adaptable approach
  • Ability to work effectively as part of an established team
  • High levels of emotional awareness and intelligence

Desirable Qualities

  • Recent experience teaching in a SEND setting (within the past three years)
  • A proven track record of working successfully with vulnerable young people
  • Strong interpersonal skills and emotional resilience
  • Up-to-date knowledge of Local Authority and national SEND expectations, including the SEND Code of Practice (2014) and EHCP implementation
  • Ability to work autonomously, using initiative effectively
  • Confidence in reflective practice and commitment to continuous professional development
