Scottish Power Transmissions are looking for a Site Civil Engineer to join their EGL1 project, based in Torness.

Location: Torness Site, EH42 1SW (3/4 days per week on site)

Duration: 12 month initial contract with renewal in line with the project

Rate: Inside IR35, Umbrella and PAYE options available

Role Overview: The ideal candidate will have strong site experience and a solid understanding of groundworks and geotechnical engineering. You will be involved in supervising, interpreting and optimising works related to ground improvement, piling, retaining walls and civil construction. Must be comfortable working in a dynamic fast-paced site environment, and be able to work collaboratively and strategically to deliver scope in optimal time.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Support technical review of all Civil, Structural & Building Engineering documentation, drawings & works
  • Support commercial reviews of Variation Order & Milestone Payments for all Civil, Structural & Building Engineering Works
  • Ensure works are carried out in accordance with works information, civil design and specifications
  • To ensure civil phase construction programme is prepared, maintained and delivered in line with overall programme and to support Project Engineer with detailed reviews of civil programme
  • To collaboratively work with and monitor/review Contractors to ensure highest standards of health, safety and environmental management, including legislation compliance
  • Act as Clients Representative in ensuring that the contractor is discharging their duties in line with the CDM regulations
  • Planning and construction interface with Contractor during civil construction phase
  • To lead reviews of Contractor quality documentation and ensure construction accords with contract requirements
  • To identify and witness installation and commissioning hold/notification points to ensure build quality and specification compliance
  • To verify and support site audit processes ensuring they are enacted by the Contractor and review/report on findings
  • To ensure converters delivery accords with NSL governance requirements
  • Attend daily/weekly coordination, safety and quality meetings as required
  • Compile a daily site diary detailing ongoing activities

Criteria:

  • Degree-qualified Civil Engineer or Construction Engineer/equivalent experience
  • Proven site-based experience on infrastructure or construction projects
  • Experience with:
  • Soil stabilisation techniques, experience with cement stabilization or other chemical methods to improve ground bearing capacity
  • Pile design & Load testing, understanding of pile types, design parameters, and interpretation of load test results
  • Drainage & Temporary works design, knowledge of site drainage systems and temporary works
  • Construction method statements & Sequencing experience drafting or reviewing method statements
  • Material specification & QA/QC Procedures familiarity with specifications for aggregates, geogrids, and concrete, and experience implementing quality control on site
