Scottish Power Transmissions are looking for a Risk Manager to join their team based in Cambuslang or Edinburgh Park on an initial contract basis.

Business: Scottish Power Transmissions

Location: Cambuslang or Edinburgh Park/hybrid style working (if Edinburgh Park, travel to Cambuslang at least 1 day per week will be required)

Duration: 12 month initial contract with scope of extension

Rate: Negotiable inside IR35, Umbrella and PAYE options available

Hours: Full time, Mon - Fri

Job Purpose Statement

SP Energy Networks (SPEN) will deliver £5.4bn of investment in the GB electricity grid over the next five years. Within this, the SPT Core Portfolio will deliver a £2.4bn programme of new overhead lines and new and upgraded substations, spanning design, engineering, construction and electrical works.

The Core PMO Risk Manager is a management role accountable for establishing and leading a portfolio-wide Risk Management function across 600+ major infrastructure projects. The role sets the strategic direction for Risk Management, drives quantitative analysis and insight‑led reporting, builds organisational capability, and enables executive decision‑making, assurance and portfolio performance.

Accountability Statements

  • Leads the Core Portfolio Risk Management function, setting direction, standards and capability.
  • Implements and continuously improves a standard Risk Management framework across 600+ projects.
  • Leads QRSA, QRCA and Monte Carlo analysis, ensuring outputs shape planning, forecasting and decision‑making.
  • Drives rollout and adoption of Risk Management tools, standards and playbooks across the portfolio.
  • Delivers portfolio‑level risk reporting, trend analysis and forward‑looking insight for executive decision‑making.
  • Builds risk capability through team leadership, upskilling and a proactive risk culture.
  • Develops risk analytics and drives continuous improvement in data, governance and reporting.
  • Works across Planning, Cost and project teams to ensure risk and contingency are reflected in baselines and forecasts.
  • Provides senior stakeholder leadership and assurance, aligned to portfolio priorities, regulatory expectations and best practice.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • Extensive experience in infrastructure Risk Management within major capital, EPC or complex portfolio delivery environments.
  • Proven success establishing and leading Risk Management functions, frameworks and governance at scale.
  • Expert knowledge of QRSA, QRCA and Monte Carlo analysis, and their application to cost, schedule and executive decision‑making.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management capability, with credibility at senior and executive levels.
  • Experience delivering the rollout and adoption of Risk Management tools, systems and standards across large portfolios.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to turn complex data into clear management insight.
  • Degree qualified in a relevant discipline or equivalent professional qualifications and experience.
  • Knowledge of NEC4 and proficiency in relevant tools, including Safran Risk, Power BI and Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrable experience establishing or leading a Risk Management function or equivalent portfolio-level capability.
  • Strong knowledge of quantitative risk analysis, including QRSA, QRCA and Monte Carlo methodology.
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills, with experience operating at senior management level.
  • Experience leading teams and driving adoption of Risk Management tools, systems and standards.
