Scottish Power Renewables are looking for a Protection, Control and Metering Engineer to join their EA1N project, based in either London or Glasgow.

Role: Protection, Control, and Metering Engineer

Business: Scottish Power Renewables - EA1N

Duration: initial contract until 31st Jan 2027, with renewal in line with the project

Location: London or Glasgow/hybrid style working (whichever is your preference)

Hours: Full time, Mon - Fri

Rate: Inside IR35, Umbrella and PAYE options available

Main Purpose of Job: Responsible for technical management of Protection, Control and Metering systems in our Offshore Wind projects. Ensuring that Protection, Control and Metering (PCM) systems are designed and delivered in accordance to regulations, employer's requirements and best engineering practices.

Key Tasks:

  • Ensure that the Protection, Control and Metering (PCM) are designed and delivered in accordance to regulations, industry relevant standards and best engineering practices.
  • Coordination and technical lead related to the PCM discipline for the project, from tender process to project execution until contract closure.
  • Ensure that the designs developed by the different Contractors involved are consistent, technically safe and coordinated with the rest of the windfarm design.
  • Provide support expertise to relevant project areas to ensure key packages technical compliance to minimise costs/risks on PCM items.
  • Provide professional advice on engineering technical detail and risk levels, to ensure that cost effective technical solutions are identified, fully evaluated and the risk profile is fully understood by the project.
  • Justification of technical decisions and ensure that all assessments, recommendations and decisions are fully documented (including technical and commercial due diligence).
  • Balance technical detail with commercial needs and provide recommendations, taking into account all relevant risks.
  • Ensure adequate testing is passed before delivery of the system to site, including witness to inspections and FAT at contractor's facilities.
  • Coordinate other consultants and contractors where required to deliver the package for the project.
  • Collaborate with Contract Managers for terms/specification to secure best value and minimise costs/risks.
  • Detailed reporting about progress, technical or commercial issues, interfaces and risks to relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure that health and safety and environmental requirements are fully considered and adhered to in design to ensure compliance with legislation and industry best practice in coordination with Senior HSQE advisors.

Key Criteria:

  • Essential Client-side Technical Management experience.
  • Reviewing, challenging, and approving PCM design done by 3rd party contractor.
  • Strong knowledge in protection philosophies, SLDs, trip matrices and control concepts, from a validation and decision-making perspective.
  • Experience in overseeing engineering specification and design of PCM systems, including technical specifications, I/O lists, control architecture, communication network, control philosophy, control logics, interlocks, electrical protection design criteria, protection philosophy, protection SLD and trip matrix, protection coordination studies, metering design criteria, metering SLD, etc.
  • Proven experience in technical management of the contracts, including contract management, programme management, cost and risk control and acting as focal point between contractor and relevant stakeholders.
