We are recruiting on behalf of a leading defence and technology organisation that delivers advanced maritime and mission‑critical solutions to customers worldwide. This is a permanent opportunity for a Buyer – Indirect Procurement to join a fast‑paced and highly regulated environment, supporting the sourcing of indirect goods and services across the business. The successful candidate will play a key role in supplier management, contract negotiation, cost control and ensuring continuity of supply to support operational and project requirements.
Responsibilities
- Negotiate supplier contracts using procurement best‑practice tools
- Balance cost, quality and delivery requirements
- Issue RFQs and purchase orders in line with company and government regulations
- Maintain accurate supplier, part and cost data within ERP systems
- Ensure continuity of supply and proactively manage supply chain risks
- Manage supplier order books, expediting and prioritising orders
- Identify and deliver cost‑reduction and value‑improvement opportunities
- Liaise with production, QA and programme teams
- Ensure on‑time, in‑full delivery of materials and services
- Monitor market trends and assess supplier capability
- Conduct supplier performance reviews and drive improvement actions
- Support procurement KPIs and continuous improvement initiatives
- Manage defective material returns and replacement procurement
Skills
- Proven experience within indirect procurement
- Strong negotiation and supplier management capability
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Working knowledge of ERP systems (e.g. IFS or similar)
- Strong analytical skills with advanced Excel capability
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Self‑starter and ability to work independently
